As of right now, 10 interviews!! God is kind. I think I will cancel two of them since they are in the north east and I do not really want to go up north!!

I already went for two interviews. One of the hospitals that I rotated through really liked me and told me that they really want me there.

Just hoping that I get a couple of more interviews! I haven't gotten an invite in 2 weeks!!

For what it's worth, programs DO NOT get to see your picture until they have hit the ERAS button to send an interview invite to the candidate.

So rest assured that your rejections were not due to head scarf on your image.

Have faith! I was in your same position and just 2 days ago, I started receiving interviews. Also from I have heard, some programs are starting to look at applications just now, and will start sending interviews beginning November through February! so keep your hopes high and pray! the season just started.

no. don't lose hope.
most of AMGs are already cancelling some of their invites by now or no later november, they only want about 10-15 (female AMGs prefer 10 or less) coz they get tired of it. also some IMGs with several IVs already (eg. Shahzaib, others,me) are now opting to cancel some programs or incoming invites, as it is getting really expensive and conflicting of dates.
so have faith. you will have your chance.

A couple of IMG friends had IVs from there very early during the season. I haven't heard back from them and would definitely like to interview there. Anyone knows if they sent RJs to anyone?

Default JHU/Sinal Hospital (Baltimore)

Hi,
I got IV invitation from JHU/Sinal Hospital IM program about 2 weeks ago and I sent an email to schedule IV date. They sent an email about 9 days ago, saying that they will send an email back in a few days but I haven't received the confirmed email for IV date.
Anyone has same condition as me?
Any information will be appreciated. Thanks !!!

hi,

What is your visa status?....

if you have time you should take step 3 ..also if you need visa H1B..
.Another thing is if you want to add this as credit for interview, take your time and get a decent score as previous..
also if you don't need visa and have 3-4 interviews you should plan to take it slowly just to pass.

.I was in the same position, was thinking of taking it for extra credit ,i dont need visa, since i got few interviews i am focusing on interviews, will take it with time.

Whatever I said ..was my plan ....I guess someone Else's suggestions would also be additional helpful to you...

I am a citizen of US...so i have no issues when it comes to visa...I think i am being filtered out by my bad step 1 score..and even though i have work experience in US in practices I dont have any formal USCE....
thanks for your advice... i ll keep my fingers crossed and study in the mean time....

If you're really interested in the program, you should definitely call the coordinator to schedule the interview.

If they're offering that interview slot they're definitely working that day. Just keep asking for your confirmation.

Stony Brook downloaded everything of mine, as did Washington Hospital Center. I applied on September 15th, but I'm yet to hear anything of any of those programs.

Nope, didn't hear from the south campus. I didn't get a lot of invites from the West..most of my invites are from the east.

Did you apply to just IM and what were the mix of programs? Were they all community hospitals? How many University programs did you apply for, if any? Did you apply all across the US or just concentrate on one region? Let us know so that we can see if there was a flaw in your application process.

I applied 71 IM, 8 FM and focused mainly on community hospitals. I wasnt picky regarding the region

It looks like you applied widely and aimed for realistic targets. My feeling is that you didn't send out enough applications. I think I would do another 70, at least, if I were you. 150 applications is not unusual even for American grads.

Here's another question, should i apply for programs that i dont even meet their requirements like: YOG . I know that i didnt apply that much but these 79 are where i felt im a good match for their criteria

I think that YOG may be a pretty strict criterion. However, I think that scores are more aspirational, so I would worry less about score requirements. But you should really check out program websites and try to get a feel for those that may be interested in you.

i honestly hope+wish+pray its not over i swear but am only saying this becuz i recieved abt 6 rej emails that specifically stated (WE FILLED OUR INTERVIEW QOUTA FOR THIS SEASON OR INTERVIEW SLOTS ARE FILLED AND WE HAVE 223 ON WAITING LIST etc...)
so when i noticed there was a trend in the rej letters i felt its almost over !
and i only say almost bcuz ppl who r interviewing in jan or feb are either ( a result of cancellations or a delay in the reviewing process in some programs )..

what i think is unfair and a bit sad is why set a deadline in dec or january and u have all your slots filled by nov 1st !

@doc.mav: I'm not intending to bring down anyone morale. We all suffered for years to reach this point, and this is the gate for the future life. This year things are so different than last year. Probably due to the absence of pre-match. I noticed a huge disparity in the count of the IV, some people easily got 20+, others got nil. The problem is that credential is not the winning factor here( and that drives me crazy!). I feel the whole process is so random this year. Finally, we are all living by hope. Thanks for your nice words and all the best to come.

To be fair, I think that everyone is getting numbers of IV in the same manner based on credentials. For example, things to notice on those that have 20+ IV: Visa status, YOG, scores.

For those that have close to 10-15 IV but need visa, they have very recent YOG (2013) or good USCE or even research or pubs to back them up.

This is the trend that I've been able to notice thus far. If good credentials, and less IV than expected, then they most likely applied late or incomplete (without LOR, CS, etc, etc).

It has been pretty accurate. I also notice that carib-IMG (especially those that speak Spanish, may have a few IVs more in comparison to other IMGs).

This is just an observation. Don't take my word for it and this is only based on what I've read through forums and friends that are participating in this current match.

That said, I think that compared to previous years it hasn't gotten much slower. Many say that you need 10 IV to secure a match and I think this is false. Okay, true...only 40% of all applications get matched, but this is data from previous years that did not take into account all those people that prematched (which are not counted towards that matching percentage). Moreover, many people fail in submitting complete applications or on time as soon as application season starts and are likely to get much less IVs, hence less chance in matching, and they're also counted towards that 40%.

I think that data for this match should show an increase in successful matched in comparison to prior years because there are much less pre-matches and all those that were going to receive a pre-match, will eventually get ranked and will participate in the data.

Default Plan B

YOG: 2009
IMG
step 1 228
step 2 235
cs passed
all passed on first attempt
Green Card pending. No visa required.
No us experience.
no research
applied to 11 IM residency programs, 8 haven't replied, 1 IV, 2 rejections
applied to 40 anesthesia residency programs, 10 preliminary with the intention to do anesthesia as PGY-2
No anesthesia interviews
At this point I'm going to the 1 IV I have just for experience. Since 1 IV is not enough to have a successful match. Unless something miraculous happens, I don't think I'm going to match for 2013. Will try again for 2014, that time only applying to IM and family medicine.
If 2014 doesn't work out, I'm going to become a house-wife. Take it as a sign that medicine is not for me.
I feel like it's pretty much over for me. But deep down fingers crossed. Either way I'm going to start putting plan B into full effect.

I respectfully disagree. You need just ONE GOOD INTERVIEW to match.

Received my 1st IV yesterday from a university program...shocked that it came on a Saturday!!

There are still a lot of interviews to be sent out, especially from community programs. I called a few programs and they said they haven't reviewed all the applications yet and are in the process of finalizing interview calls. Keep the faith.

Smile Keep hopes high guys!!

Here is something I saw today and thought would lighten up your day,

http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=he_c2#...r-shortage.cnn

There were rumors that things would be harder, but I actually think the opposite.

The shortage in physicians is huge and will get larger!!

Best of luck!!

has anyone interviewed with only with just step 1 and CS? i am taking ck in middle of december and my results will come back later. any advice on how to bring it up to the program when they ask? would have been easier if i had the scores in earlier but not happening since my date for ck is as such.

i have 5 interviews for internal med scheduled in late DEC and early Jan (2 in IL , 1 MI, 1 OH, 1 LA)

caribbean img / graduating at end of may 2013 / finishing 4th yr electives now
214 step 1 (2nd attempt) and pass on CS - applied to eras in september... plenty of rejections (like 50 of 130 some)

Congrats on your interviews. May I inquire which programs they are? Also, did you have connections for these interviews?
As for the programs asking, I personally think if they didn't like you not having your score, you wouldn't have gotten the interview, that is, again, unless you had connections to get them. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about not having it.
Good luck!

2012 Internal Medicine Residency Matching Applicants

Their scores were better than mine profile, But I am not sure about the overall profile I think which matters most..
So i think IM position for IMG is Shrinking..its now time to shift to Pediatric!!
this thread could be useful to the applicant of future and current applicant..So that people dont end unmatched..
I am posting my Profile and i encourage others to do so, to discuss how to make i better..

Thumbs Up pulled out of Match

Dear Friends,
This journey towards residency was stressful and painful , if you are in US without support, without contact. On your Journey towards your goal, there may be People who will ignore you or down you, there may be people, who know your weakness and take advantage of that, and there are few but there are, few good men who will help you without selfishness. I am glad that I encountered all these kind of people, making me more mature in the life game. I also glad to those people who really helped me in with their guidance and experience. Also glad to those who did not help, so that I can say I made it without you. Strongly believe in Be Good to yourself and be good to others. God help those who help themselves. If you are determined you will achieve it .

I took Pre-Match on 8 th Interview(community )...(Total =12,11 community+1 Univ)
reason-- Match is uncertain.. program desirable to me..wanted to feel safe and be certain

God bless you all...the purpose I started this thread Worked out for me...Hope you all get match too...

Good luck..(I am not sharing the program name on forum as for purpose)

Default Interview at Flushing Hospital (NY)

Hello everybody.
I have an interview in Flushing Hospital soon, and I would like to know anybody's thoughts about this place.
I know that they don't sponsor visas and that it's a small community program. But, is it any good?

Help?

The hospital is very active and busy, the residents and the faculty members were so friendly but the nursing staff were not
They don´t offer fellowship, so if you are interested in their program it´s better to mention that you are not looking for felloships
