I haven't. I was suppose to give 21 interview by Dec 21st, but one of them got cancelled (Creighton Uni) due to the storm there. So my interview season is over now. Working on the ROL now.

The majority of IMGs that are securing residency in their first or second attempt of applying are completing and documenting the following:

1.) Pass USMLEs (Step 1, 2CK and 2CS) with no more than 5 total attempts and within 1 year.
2.) Complete 4-12 physician supervised insured hands-on clinical rotations in the US. In the US one rotation is 4 weeks long (146 total hours) and 1 Clinical Evaluation and 1 LOR should be secured per rotation.
3.) Completed hands-on clinical rotations while studying for USMLEs in order to maintain patient care history active.
4.) Secure 4 LORs and 4 Clinical Evaluations from US Physicians. LORs and Clinical Evaluations must relate to medical specialties applying to.

5.) For those that can work in the US. Obtaining a job in the US healthcare field that is considered Residency Relevant and allows you to work for US Physicians, practivce clinical skills and maintain your patient history active is very popular. Obtaining an LOR from a Physician you work for is extremely helpful. Working as a Certified Advanced Medical Assistant is considered residency relevant.

6.) CV, Personal Statement, and ERAS application professionally revised. Highlighting USCE (clinical rotations and work experience).
7.) Submit complete applications on September 15.
8.) Apply to two specialties. Submit 150-200 applications per specialty (300-400 total applications)

The majority of medical graduates that can meet these criteria average 5-12 residency interviews per year. Usually match within 1-2 attempts. (Observership, Research or Volunteer clinical rotations are not recommended as they are ranked low by residency programs among the selection criteria. Refer to research articles below.)

- Selection Criteria for Residency: Results of a National Program Directos Survey.

- National Residency Matching Program - Results of the 2010 NRMP Program Director Survey.

I agree with few points but I disagree with most of them , and my friends who have applied this year n previous years will agree with me on this .you people misguide poor doctors in an attempt to earn Dollars. I applied with one us lor n got 4 interviews so far n I hope to get one more as my application is on hold at several places n all this iz without any contact , + two of my friends have 6 interviews without any us lors ( good scores +luck) . Now my dear fellow doctors who plan to apply next year I am not underestimating the importance of usce but these AMerican clerkship n aca people tend to overestimate it . They have scared people to the point that anyone you meet in Kaplan Chicago where American clerkship have regular sessions ,believes that without getting 4 us lors u can never get into residency n for those lors u have to give 10000 dollars to this company , my honest opinion is observer ship in cook county or mount Sinai or rush or any place that have residency program is better than this externship in small community program .

Default So untrue

Right now Im at the Mayo clinic doing a surgical clerkship, and i can assure that what you are saying is wrong. (To ACA(=)

For top tied programs in the US, research is equivalent to clerkship, in fact most residents here have at least 1 to 2 years of research, Masters degree and/or PhD, the same happens in Harvard, Cleveland clinic and Johns Hopkins.
Most residents here are old, meaning they are at least 2 years postgraduation securing research and getting a lot of publications and connections.

Several physicians have told me that you have to get clerkships and/or research in a good program, both are great but if not at least one will secure a lot of interviews.

50% residents are AMG's and 50% are FMG's (at least in the surgical area)

OF the 7 students that got accepted to this month clerkship, only 1 is an AMG and the rest are FMG's (myself included)
And yes, medschools have already started their classes.

Securing US residency and surviving through residency are two different obstacles.

Many FMGs match each year by only completing research and observerships in the US. But securing residency shouldnt be your only priority, being well prepared and surviving through residency is just as important. Why?

For the simple fact that 30%-50% of 1st and 2nd year residents (AMGs/FMGs) dropout each year due to "personal reasons" / "acculturation issues" / "lack of preparedness."

Hands-on US clinical experience is the best way to prepare and its preferred by the majority of residency programs. But dont take my word for it, please refer to the multiple research articles that are available on this topic including the two that I listed for you.

I have not heard a single resident drop out "in particluar" due to acculturation. Please provide fact sheets as an evidence!

Thank you very much!

Now look up research articles on attrition rates of residents in preresidency programs and fellowships programs. Quite several as well.

Add up all dropouts within 1st and 2nd year of program that take place each year. You can do it per specialty as well.

10,000 USD!!! Is this is a true number or were you just exaggerating I'm a green card holder so I'd rather work as a medical assistant if a hands-on experience will cost me a hell lot of money

Traditionally int he US the position of a Medical Assistant can be secured by a recent high school dropout or graduate.

You would benefit more by going through a formal program and obtaining a position as a Certified Advanced Medical Assistant at a Teaching Hospital, Community Hospital or work two part-time positions for a Physician in a Private Practice or Clinic.

ACA offers a state approved Advanced Medical Assisting-Medical Residency Track program designed to help Medical Graduates prepare for medical residency and secure a position as CAMA to earn a salary and maintain USCE active.

Default Applied in January

Hey all,

I applied in January of 2013. Got ECFMG Certified Mid december and took a few weeks with the LOR's so sent out my applications in the 1st week of Jan. Most people told me it's a waste of time, but I thought If I don't try I'll have that thought in the back of my head "What if I had" so just applied to a very limited amount of program.

Surprisingly I was put on the waitlist of 2 and got 1 interview (@ Seaton Hall Univ - St Francis).

Just thought I'd share, if anyone was wondering what are the chances of getting IV's if applying late in the season.

Wish everyone all the best !

Nik.

Shima,

Thank you for your feedback. However, the hundreds of medical students and graduates that we come in contact and assist each year would disagree.

Particularly those that have secured 5-12 IVs and those that are now in residency.

We look forward to your future replies and feedback.

Best - Victor

Student from low tier carib-schools who cant get a paper stamped and signed at a respected graduate medical office.

i wonder does the owner of the ACA, he cant even get licensed in the state of CA since he is a graduate st.mathews which is banned by CALI.

Also I can strongly say no one on this forum is using your services.

Now be a good boy and post all your info here again, and again, like all the other ACA people before you and after you.

trying to make money off poor IMG's.

If your not giving any info for free your not helping anyone.

I bet if ACA owned this website you charge per post.

It happens.

There is quite a noticeable difference between the two, right? And even a greater difference from those that shared their results.

@ Victor
I have a better suggestion for you. How about the IMGs get their insurance and you ask the "physicians" who we are working with and working for, pay "us". because they are getting paid off, we as IMGs don't get paid off for anything, ANYTHING!
With limited resources, even volunteering is like a burden for us, and you are asking us to pay you!!
How about you take that burden off, make your money from those physicians (for whom we would be working---remember: we are already graduated physicians)!!!!

I completely understand your frustration. ACA is founded and supervised by physicians. That is why ACA offers different programs and services that include discounts, grants, payment plans and job placement assistance for those that qualify.

We also understand that not everyone is in the same position to utilize all available tools. Yet we offer different services at no cost.

Feel free to contact me for a free consultation.

Jesus christ, what's with all the hostility. These guys are just like UW or any other company out there offering a service in return for a fee. No one is twisting your hand to accept their services so stop being so mean. I found a lot of ACA post helpful, but this in no means implies that I'm willing to pay an a** load of $$$$ for USCE but some people are, so why shut the door in their faces.

Shima, If you have spoken with 100+ residency applicants and my fellow colleagues and I have spoken with hundreds of medical graduates that secured multiple interviews for this years MACTH; that means we have only spoken with a very small fraction.

I recognize this and am aware that every residency applicant has a different experience and may or may not benefit from our programs and services.

l look forward to your participation and hearing your results for this years MATCH.

http://www.nrmp.org/about_nrmp/index.html
"In 2012, the NRMP enrolled 4,427 programs in The Match, which altogether offered 26,772 positions. A total of 38,377 applicants participated in The Match. Of those, 16,875 were 2012 graduates of accredited U.S. medical schools and 21,502 were independent applicants."

whitecloud,

With less than 20 days before the Deadline for registration and ROL certification it wouldnt benefit you if thousands of residency applicants that are part of this forum would share their residency interviews scheduled for March?

I think it would help you. Keep us posted on your progress.

Best - Victor

Surprisingly I was put on the waitlist of 2 and got 1 interview (@ Seaton Hall Univ - St Francis).

Just thought I'd share, if anyone was wondering what are the chances of getting IV's if applying late in the season.

Wish everyone all the best !

congrats on the IVs.
May I ask what your scores, GC status and if us had any USCE or research?

I know someone from my school who matched like that, it is possible

Applying to IM and FM, any geographic area is good!

SCHOOL
- In Europe
YOG- 2013 June
USMLE STEP 1 248 (1st attempt)
USMLE STEP 2 CK-254 (1st attempt)
USMLE CS- 1 time pass
ECFMG cert. upon graduation.
STEP 3 - can't take it yet
USCE- I have my last year at a hospital with ACGME residencies rotating there. 10 months by the time I graduate, 3 and a half months done by the big day, Sept. 15.
Research and publication- basic science research from undergrad and med school both involving very many laboratory animals.
VISA - US citizen
LoRs- 1 FM, 4 IM so far

Good luck to all you prospective matching ladies and gents, and let's hope this first all-in year treats us well. Special good luck to all of us when it comes to dealing with administration at our respective schools!!!!!
