Just wondering how many programs you applied to? And how did you choose them? This will influence the chances of getting an interview.

Actually I applied to 80 programs that does not require the CS as a per-requisite , I was planning to apply to the other 50 programs when I get the CS result as per match a resident

Usually FMGs start getting interviews in October,so dont press panic button as most who got interviews are IMGs who dont require visas.MRCP and Maters in critical care shall go a long way in helping you,its kind of best non American experience.Having said that your delayed CS can be a road block for you, because many programs that don't require CS they are talking about AMGs(but not necessarily).Try clearing it with success.

The good news is that your scores are very good for FM. The 2011 Step 1 average score for non-AMG's who matched was 204. Did you also filter OUT programs that required USCE? (An important consideration). Also, did you split your applications equally amongst all program types? For instance, 1/3 to University programs, 1/3 to Community Hospitals, 1/3 to Community Programs with University affiliations. Or did you not bother discriminating on this basis.

I have no idea what 'as per "match a resident"' means. The corresponding match scores for IM are Step 1: 225 and Step 2: 228.

IMO, you have much better chances with IM. FM mostly requires GC or >6mos USCE. also your mrcp & critical care is a plus for an IM applicant.

Your scores etc. are really great. But not all residency programs are equal. Your chances of getting an interview are very dependent on how many programs you applied for and exactly which ones you chose to apply for. In general terms, despite the great scores, your chances are reduced by being an old grad. and not having good USCE or more US LOR's. But, as I said, your scores are quite good, so you have really helped your chances with them.

I'm glued to my mac, it's crazy. The logic and experience say that one should check their emails maybe once a day this week, twice a day next week and maybe a bit more by mid october.
I think it's fresh, double 99s' fault!!!

Default need ur opinion

It's a great thread folks.here are my credentials:

IMG
YOG : 2011
step 1 : 240 first attempt
step 2 : 241 first attempt
CS : Passed first attempt
2 months hands on US clinical experience in 2 medicine subspecialties in a university hospital
4 U.S LORs (2 waived and 2 unwaived,3 of them pretty strong)
NO research experience
step 3 due in november
Require VISA

i applied to around 135 I.M programs. NO calls yet.one rejection.

I am a bit concerned about my USMLE scores.I am afraid with so many ppl scoring in high 240's n 250's even a double 240 just might not enough this year.

So

1.i want to know about my chances of getting into a competitive residency program with future fellowship opportunities( A university program or a university affiliated community program)

2. how many calls would be enough to match into a program of above desired credentials??

3.anything that i can do to improve my chances besides taking step 3( which i will take definetly)??

Plz give a 'realistic' opinion..I know ppl on this forum are very nice n helpful but don't need a sweet talk.

IMO, with no prematch this year, IMGs with scores of 240 and above have a higher chance of getting into UNI and UAF programs as most of the prematch positions used to be taken by such applicants in the past. Ur application is a good package overall. The only weakness you have right now is needing visa (which can create problems even AFTER matching).

thanks, i applied to 40 programs all in the northeast. do you think applying to 10-20 more community programs in NJ /PA might help. I'm trying to avoid NY since I'm reluctant to move there in the long run........

Why only 40? But, yes, apply to as many as you can. I think you need to...

i'm imagining the more you go up this list, the more prominent the gyri/sulci will be, much like einstein's. im below Blingbang, mine's kinda smooth.

One of our friends in this forum has similar scores as yours and has 5 IVs and many above him in score are in the same boat as you are.I think other than Visa issue, some role is of luck and where you applied and what your PS was..........just speculating

its only optional for some, mandatory for few. but try to send them a good one.
IMO it will definitely help them picture you as a professional, smart, capable doctor.
ergo my friends from iran, chezch & libya (during my rotation) had their photo done with a professional photographr. $100-150. (couldnt go that high, just got myself a cheaper studio photo)
miss those crazy guys, had good laughs with them.

usually weekdays only. if you got an invite, you can't schedule anyway coz they only entertain M-F or if you can up until sat 12nn only.
yeah you can relax. am going trekking this weekend to ease my mind of this stress..

Default Interviews to offers

Hi,

Does anyone know how many interviews, on average, IM programs do for positions on offer? Is it something like 8:1?

Ed

in my observation: 8-10 positions IV about 100-150, 10-20 go for 200-250

but i've read they would only rank 3 times the number of positions offered. if 10 positions, they would rank 30 applicants out of the 200. if 8, they rank 24. so on & so forth..

i have no idea what you are trying to ask in this post..your sentences are all mixed up with multiple questions in each sentence re-write your post, and write your questions one by one and number them...

Thanks. Interesting. So, the interview/hire rate is less than 10/1. Then they only rank about 1 in 4 of those they interview? No, that couldn't be right. According to the NRMP, in 2012, IM programs that filled all their positions ranked just over 6 per position. But it must vary widely from program to program, as it does from specialty to specialty.

yeah, they have a "quota" thing that they submit to nrmp. it varies by program. out of all the interviewees, they will rank accdg to their quota.
am not entirely sure, didn't mind the details to this when i read. i just kept in mind the simple thing -- position offered x 3 = the number they would rank among the interviewed applicants.

you have posted this on many forums.

Every hundred program will cost you 2000$ at least for 6 specailties
so 12000$

Now, if you dont have USCE, good marks, pass on first attempt. and US lors at this time your in a bad position.

Tell us about your credentials. your marks, your CV, maybe it will help you better.

For those who have jailbroken iOS devices, you could download Mail Enhancer Pro and assign a ringtone everytime myeras(noreply@eraspod.aamc.org) emails you.

I assigned Gangnam Style for everytime there is an email containing "Interview" on the subject!

So you won't be nervous every freaking time you have an email notification during weekdays. Too bad there is no similar app for OSX or Windows.

Thanks for the congrats, its just the beginning and I assure everyone else the programs sending out interviews are few. The majority of programs haven't started inviting yet so keep your stress levels down and don't get too worked up on these matters, its too early. October is on its way and there is plenty comming for sure. Best of luck to everyone!

LOL!
I just realized, do some rejection letters titled Interview Rejection?(coz my only rejection contained Program Regrets on the subject)
Because if that is the case, then i need to set more filters!
I dont want to celebrate that early...for a rejection!

they won't title/say it as a "rejection" coz it's a negative word.
that's just there nice way of saying "you didn't make it to hollywood".
