With regards to the pre-match only programs mentioned above. Five of these programs are military, thus not open to all. Of the seven real possibilities, those in the US proper, they are mostly in NY with one each in PA and CA. I also see that a few of those seven have already extended interview offers to contributers of this forum.

Hey everyone,

I have gotten 3 interviews and 2 rejections so far. I feel like I should be getting more and am quite scared out of my mind. I feel like I am not going to get anymore. Do you feel like it is still early to get interviews?

I have been getting acknowledgements from many programs that they are reviewing my applications.

Anyway, every time I check my email, I get a heart attack. Ugh. This is such a stressful process. I hate it.

just did my 1st FM interview.
the questions are pretty simple & just the usual ones we hear. basically aimed to know you better. why FM, why this program, tell me about you, etc.
based on how i answered, am not expecting much from them. i was stuttering, was obviously nervous & jittery coz PD was kinda strict (pd: "uh-huh, what else?, anything more?)
btw no need to memorize any script or something, questions are not that hard as you think if one is calm. IT IS really impt to be calm, keep a great composure and be honest all throughout.

So far for me:

Still have to wait. Wait and wait.

But heard that most programs have not sent invitations yet, a lot that i know. So I am full of hope.

IMO we shouldn't worry about fellowships as it still boils down to how you performed during residency. one may be in a univ program but hasn't performed well during evaluations would still find it hard to get fellowships.

yesterday, as i was talking to the chief resident, he said last year's graduates were able to get OB, ER med, Geriatric fellowships in good hosp. yet that unopposed program was in small community hosp but their training, both clinical & academics was extensive & excellent, daily didactics, ICU, ER, etc..

so being in a comm or UA comm program is not a problem as long as you do well in residency.

I am so happy. Second IV, 2 university affiliated hospitals.
Now I am worried about the dates, had to take one in the beginning of December. The other one in November, i can't afford staying 2 months in the US.

Good morning people!
Good point about the scores. Just shows you that they are aspirational and often don't reflect reality.

wow.. your on a spree tol.. would you mind telling us what lucky charm are you wearing back there?

crazyykw: proves scores & not having visa are not the only factors. maybe his CV, PS or LORs were very good, or maybe he's just one lucky dude.

My CV is completely blank. no medical school awards. no other honors. my class ranking is in the bottom quartile. my nonwaived 3USLORs were from private physicians only. my PS was made only 1week before the deadline, so you could imagine its quality.

Btw not sure if this counts but it took me only less than 5minutes to apply to all programs last sept15. Im using auto-page refresher before the myeras opening and when it opened, i used tab-space-tab-space to check all my programs instead of one by one manual clicking of the checkbox. in less than the minute, im already checking out my bill.

i have the same stats too (nice & clean CV, unwaived lors), even much lower scores than Yatap. only difference is my visa, top 20 class rank & good PS.

if you got the same or better stats than us, you will have a chance too. don't worry, have faith.

@JPRizal,just an off beat question from this topic....today I received a mail from a program in Illinois that said that we have received record number of apps this year mostly form well qualified candidates such as you.Your app has been reviewed and put on hold,we shall let you know if there is any change in status of your application.
My question is that is it a diplomatically written rejection letter or there is still a remote chance?I did receive rejections but they were out right n their saying that they cannot consider me.

......actually I did not mention the whole content. One of my documents(Transcript) has not been uploaded ,they have asked for that also.
I did receive another mail from a univ prog in Wisconsin couple of days back, but they had mentioned that they will not review my app till they receive the document...having said that I already have received 2 IVs,wonder how they sent me those without med school transcript(i think some programs don't give much importance to foreign school transcripts).......

I guess you are lying/exaggerating/underselling your credentials/ps/lors........ if you got these ivs with these lors and ps then it must be your photograph.... Maybe you look like a composite of Brad Pitt and Matthew McConaughey; all the program coordinators (mostly female) go wet in their pants when they see your photograph and invite you for a hot and heavy iv session (pun intended).... Rest all of us ugly ones; we have to worry about scores and lors and usce and personal statement and all the other stuff!

I too feel there must be something great in his app which he is not sharing may be in modesty....,he got great IVs....but I shall agree with halo2013 too that no one knows what PDs see in apps.,someone with apparently great credentials is stranded and other with apparently simple cv succeeds.

He didnt say his PS and LORs were BAD either. My guess is that after the filters(lets say >220 + CS1st attempt + >3USLOR + 1st time applicant +USCE/Obs ) were applied, each application is being reviewed first come first served.

Relax bro, he is not taking your Top#1 FMG slot. Im sure you will get more University programs than him and every FMGs combined...

dude, i am not worried about my top fmg spot (if there is such a thing), just making an observation, how arbitrary the process can be. And when we are preparing for USMLE then we are all **** scared about not getting decent scores, not having usce, and not having a WELL WRITTEN ps. If these things are all non variables and important thing is applying .0000001 second after ADTS opens, then why sweat for such a long time?

It is not about me, it is shocking to a friend of mine who is 2010 grad, 240/241/pass/204, with 6 months observership (in WASH u/utmb/case western/baylor) and 5 different lors.... She has 4 interviews and is worried (St. Barnabas nyc, bronx lebanon, reading pa and utoledo) .....

there's a ton of variables, no matter how we determine or argue about it, we won't really get a definite answer not unless PDs tell us what they really want. for all we know Yatap may just be lucky or handsome enough to have earned those invites. before i thought it was scores but it wasn't, then i thought it's visa but then it wasn't either and so on and so forth, so disputing about this is futile. we'd be going in circles.

let's shift this topic to something that would be favorable for us all or something that would get others invites.

Im sure you wont be mad if he has only 1/5 of your list

Maybe Yatap spent $200 for an instant personal statement and ultrapowerful or Obama's personal physican's LOR. Who could tell.

There is no reason to hate that guy, your invites are better than him. You now got 2 Univ programs and Im sure you will get more.

You are out of everybody's league and you are hitting on somebody in the ~70th percentile because you didn't get invited by his programs?

Look man, dont freak out(like you did in the other forums). You are one of the top 1% of this year's applicants. I would love to see how you compete in terms of IV invites with the humbler, friendly Top1 IMG, shahzaib.

I guess this is important to talk about it and figure out, because out there are many younger, brilliant doctors in our home countries, who are about to invest their precious time and lots of money into USMLE. If they do not know what is required of them then those guys will just be shooting arrows in the dark. So it is highly imperative, we figure out how and on what basis we are rated and the best way to figure that out would be if we all are honest when we post over here .

Based on this thread one thing is crystal clear- that visa is THE BIGGEST FILTER OF THEM ALL. If looks happen to be second one the people should be open about it.

Where have i said that i hate that guy...dude, i am least likely to hate anyone on any basis (i am a ****ing liberal), what about those friends of yours? aren't they worried? I am not hitting on anyone, I just want to understand this process better. The guy got the interviews, it is great, good for him, and hope he does amazing in all the ivs and gets to the place where he wants/ desires. I hope all of us do. We have all gained so much insight regarding the application process from this forum, i hope the next batch of doctors who come after, also gain something from this thread. I never said that the guy did not deserve these IVs, I said that he is UNDERSELLING his credentials to us people this means, this guy is actually being modest!..... please read carefully before making assumptions.....Yeah i did freak out before I got IVs, because i have devoted a lot of energy to this process and i did not want to fail at the final step... All of us feel the same way about this!!

There are a lot of younger ones who will tread on our path, and they should learn something from our experience. If obama physician is the way, then they should know about it..

by lying i meant that he is just hiding his real creds (like some research or something great he must have done) and exaggerating meant he was exaggerating about the 'little' time he spent on his ps and the 'value' of his lors..And underselling...why did you not highlight that one?

i hope i have corrected the context in which i was using those words

How come a 99/99/1st attempt is underselling himself?

189/196/CSx3attempts/No Usce/No Obs/No USLOR/late applicant

...........that's underselling.

O yeah everything is arbitrary... 230s is a nondecent score for you.

I don't know from what countries rest of you guys come, but I am from India, and it can put a lot of financial burden on someone's family to pursue USMLE.

For someone like me who belongs to the middle class, it can be really pinching to ask for money from my parents and spend it on USCE/US travel and the exams. That is why I want, next year, or maybe a lot of years later if some kid in India decides to pursue MLE, he should have a fair knowledge of what his chances are and what is required of him? You guys feel that I am mocking him? That is so not true... i just want, that we have clarity out of this thread of what is required of someone. That is the whole purpose of this thread. I freaked out!! Dude, there is a reason i freaked out.

For heaven's sake stop saying that i am belittling his scores..... why do you have to take it entirely out of context. I just want to know if it does not matter if you have a 230 or a 240 then what is the whole point of these exams??

Ok boys...... Settle down!!!!!

Stop hating on this guy for getting interviews....

He got interviews and that's it. If anything you all should be happy that a fellow IMG is getting interviews.

This is very sad to see in grown professionals. Grow up boys!!!!!!!!!!

guys please stop this useless argument Neoeinstein, please try to understand that ashake was just trying to say that Yatap is being modest..his way of expressing it was a little different, but his intentions were not wrong. And Ashake, c'mon man, no need for the foul language bro..Don't take things so seriously.
To tell u guys the truth, i also get freaked out when a guy (with lesser scores and less USCE) gets an invite from a program i also applied to like UConn and UBuf etc...its natural, and i ask them how they got it? (contacts vs no contacts?)..but it doesn't mean that i am looking down upon that guy it simply means that i am anxious about why that program is ignoring my application its not jealousy, its curiosity and anxiety

Guys! We all are IMGs here, because this is an IMG forum. Many of us haven't even got a single call and are just getting rejections or acknowledgements. Those who are getting calls, (1 IV or 35 IVs) many congrats to all of you!

Also its not about how many IVs that you get. A single good IV can get you matched, so please stop arguing about trivial issues. Scores or visa status is not the only thing. If some one can pass through the initial filters and have stellar LORs from US academic physicians even if its just a 1 month of observership, many good things can happen. If that attending has a big say at some program you can very well match there.

Try to support each other as IMGs because it takes a lot of effort for finally getting matched somewhere. The conversation above might have gone towards the wrong side, even if it wasn't meant to. So peace out guys and have patience. Its only 3 weeks since ERAS opened, there is still a long way to go. Good luck to all!

Your USCE is a plus point. Many programs have not even started sending invites. So have high hopes, something good will happen in the coming days. Good luck!

Dude this is really embarrassing. At this point I don't even know if 'some' of you are even qualified to get IVs let alone a position in residency where you'll be dealing with human beings.

Whether Yatap is lying or not or why he has more IVs is really no one's business. If this is the purpose of a thread like this (to compare the heck out of each other) then what's the use of even wanting to be a part of it.

Really embarrassing and I hope Yatap gets many many more IVs, at least his/her language isn't as shameful.

I did an observership in Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. One of the my attendings was a fellowship program director. We talked about me doing residency and goals and everything, his advice was: Apply early. Very early (I applied five hours late). Apply with complete file. Photo matter. Good look do make a difference. Professional photo is a duh, but also at least acceptable 2. Recommendation letter Matter. Depends who writes it. Famous or not. 3 pages of non stop love or not. They get thousand of polished letter, but they mean nothing because its obvious the dr will be positive but a strong letter is where the attend says he's one of the best drs I have, other wise its weight is questionable, he wont look at home country letter.. oh and said the recommendation letter can hurt big time if there was a but (even it was meant for good).. Regardung usmle. if above their criteria then it matters less. Matters only if they want to invite two and not sure which who to invite. 4. he (and says most of them) never reads personal statements until before interviews, and even then they wont make a choice because of it(usually)

That being said, I received one very very strong letter in that observership, one okay letter and one home country. Im FMG, need visa, graduated 2011 My scores are fine (240-250). nothing impressive in the cv. 4 Interview invites all from universities. 4 rejections

Good luck all
