Default Does really

Hi, I'm an IMG from middle east and I'm currently starting my final year of med school and then I have to do 1 year of internship to complete my undergrad requirements. I finished STEP1 last year, got 222 and I was so shocked and sad as I was prepared very well but things during the day of my exam went unwell. anyway I've just started my rotations and I'm thinking to study for STEP2 CK to go for it after this year and then CS during my internship but I'm concerned that all of this will be of no benefit as my score of STEP1 will affect my chances of getting interviews. I'm interested in IM and I have 3 researchers(1puplished) and I could do 2-3 months of USCE during my internship. the thing is if I will apply for US I must not apply for local program in my country

guys, if you were in my situation would you really take the risk and go for US with this score of STEP1?

You have a lot of time till you apply for residency (if you decide to). I am not sure of competitive it would be in the coming years but its expected to increase (with the increase in US medical school graduates and no increase in residency positions). However, there is a shortage and hence a demand for primary care physicians in underserved areas. So its tough to predict what the situation would be 2-3 years from now when you would apply. A low step 1 score is obviously not a good start but if you can score really well in ck (250 and up) and get strong letters from clinical and/or research electives from US physicians, you still have a good chance.
