Default My story, call for advice included

Hello everyone, I just made an account to explain my case and hopefully find some good advice. I've been a lurker for some time...maybe years, and now I am in this situation in which i need to know the best course of action.

I will be short as i believe everyones time is very important and we need to make the best out of it. some people here might be going through very important stuff right now, but if you can spare 15 min for a reply i will be eternally grateful. the point. IMG here. Graduated 2014. Mexico. Aiming for Internal Medicine/Cardiology/Interventional Cardiology.
Step 1 241 first attempt last year.
Step 2 CK 249 this year first attempt.
Step 2 CS............ failure first attempt. Low in CIS only. Took it in Atlanta. It has been probably the hardest hit, the hardest fall i have ever endured in my life. All my plans were shattered and now i am stuck in my country with no residency here either[i didnt get into residency here b/c i wanted to focus only in the US, since i am 100% committed to it] and at least one more year of waiting for success...

I do have hands-off AND hands-on clinical experience in the US, in a VERY good hospital in TX, and i have 2 published papers [ 1case report, 1 case series, nothing very big or important, not in my area of interest]. I also did some volunteer work when i lived in the US, and have several other credentials [ i.e. ACLS/BLS]

So we're in October, I've yet to find a date this year to retake step CS and I would have to pass it, complete my application process, apply to at least 20-100 programs to have just a slight chance of having an interview for this match [i already purchased an ERAS token, since i thought i would pass the CS and i am registered also in NRMP] OR.... I could do all things calmly next year...

The way I see it, yes, my chances this year are next to none, but, wouldnt this process at the very least serve as experience for the match next year?
what are the other downsides to trying this year? does anyone think i have a decent chance at matching this year? where do i start looking for more information that could help me? how can i get better? what would you do?

I love the US, I met some, if not THE best human beings i have ever met in my life, such optimistic, helpful, selfless, caring, supportive coleagues and friends and doctors and residents there, and i know that if there is a way i can make it, someone will help and guide me through this process.

I am not going to lie, i am very sad, i felt frustration from CS, but I will NOT abandon my dream of being a doctor in the US... I will try until i have exhausted all the options.

I do have a job right now as a general physician in my country and that takes away some valuable time from my days, and also i have not made really deep research online in official or specific sites about all of my options, but i have gotten some of the best advice in this site for many questions, so i thought this would be a good point to start.

I hope i have made my point. thank you all for reading. thanks to the ones that reply. I dont care that much for emotional support, i only need cold hard facts to work on my real chances. Also i would love to see if someone is up to practicing CS cases via skype or facebook. But since there are may other threads with that info, i will check them first. thanks again USMLE forums. good luck to all of you in your endeavors. if you have questions for me feel free to ask.

hey how are u ,,, sory about the cs ,,,, tell u something ... about a date in CS ,,, u can use one of the web refresher ,,, it worked before and helped me get a day when it was too crowdewd ,, that was a year ago or two ,,,, i tried this for my friend this year but couldnt find any day close this year .. u can try though

another thing ,, ill tell u how to improve ur CV ,,,, to be honest ,, u have perfect scores in steps ,,,, but the cs can be a red flag , not to dissapoint u ,,, u need to work on ur cv to cover this ,, how?.....
1-book cs as soon as u find,, dont care about applying this year or not now, u r about to clear this CS out of the way and that all what it matters now,,,
2-u need to come to USA if u can ,, to do observerships, hands on clinical experience in USA ,,,, and reasearch as well.. and do many of them as much as u can
3-while doing so u can get two things,,, ( Letters of recommendations,,again from US doctors,,, plus u will build ur connections for helping u ina match ) !

trust me,,, if u do the above ,,, it will cover this failure in CS ,,, and will help u find a spot ,,, i know someone who failed CS ,, n now got a residency in Pedia ,, so never gave up,,,, n now go to CS forums ,, n post that u need a study partner ASAP,,, dont give too much attention to the match now ,,, if u really wanna match this year ,, u can search programs that don requiure CS ,,,,

i hope this helps

wish u the best

Hey, /

Sorry to hear about your CS failure. From friends whom were in the same spot, it won't be the best idea to apply without a passing CS grade. Your scores are good for IM. What I recommend is not apply this year, save your money, do Step 3, and then apply broadly next year. My theory is why go half way right now when you can have a better application next year and that's with a pass on CS!

That's just my two cents, but the decision is all yours.
