I am reapplying this year. I got 3 rejections today: Crozer Keystone, University of Arizona, and St. Francis hospital. I am an IMG from India, US citizen, 1 and half years research, 1 year clinical experience, 4 publications so far. Steps didn't go too well: 208/210/207/pass CS- all on first attempt, hence the extra effort to compensate. I got 3 interviews last year, hopefully this year is better, although it is getting even more competitive.

You never know! I think it's still very early so keep positive!

If you don't mind me asking, what was the interview like?

I didn't have much interview experience last year, I only had one IV at a hospital that I rotated at and I had to ask for the IV lol

I am applying this year but was lurking in that forum for research haha. Congrats on your new IV!

Do you mind telling me how the interview was like? I received an IV from there and their website doesn't really have a lot of info.

My stats are 220s/220s/pass(1)/2010/OB res in home country/GC

Congratulations!! Everyone was interviewed by two people; a chief resident and an attending.

The residents were very nice and answered all questions we had, they appeared very happy and approachable. I also noticed this during my subI at the hospital compared to other hospitals that I rotated at.

The chief resident had a list of 5 questions. I can't recall the exact questions but they were along the lines of 'describe a situation where.....' or 'tell me about a time where....'

I was interviewed by the co chair, who asked me a couple medical obgyn questions. I was told he is the only one who asks medical questions. He also asked me about a grade I received back in basic sciences. He also asked if I had any 'issues' and I responded 'issues?' and he said 'do you need a visa?' and when I said yes I felt like his demeanor changed, but I could have just misinterpreted it. The day was short, we finished around lunchtime.

Good luck on your interview!
Did you receive any other IVs?

@skatergirl

Thank you so much! That was really nice of you. I've been trying to find out more things about them. I was very happy to be invited for an interview.

No other IVs yet Have not heard anything since Oct 1. Hoping this week will be better for all of us.

About St. Joseph's, all I remember is there were a TON of candidates being interviewed that day. Like 20 in the morning and 20 in the afternoon. The first was with PD and some of the residents. The next was with the DC, 3 attendings, and the chief residents. They asked all generic questions, no medical ones. There wasn't a lot of time and I didn't get to ask questions about the program. They said at the end of the interview they will rank all the candidates. The demographic of the candidates consisted of Caribbean grads and DO students. There were hardly any people from other foreign countries.

No problem! Be brave and talkative. They like to see interactive people that's easy to get along with. One of the girls that matched there interviewed with me and she was the most talkative and very nice and friendly in the group. Look up the program so you will have a lot of questions to ask them so they'd know you have a special interest about their program.

If you don't mind me asking, what country did you all graduate medical school from? I know there is certainly a higher preference for caribbean graduates compared to other foreigners, based on where all I interviewed last year.

Thanks for the tips! I've been trying to find out more about the program but between their website, doximity and apgo, there really isn't a lot of info. I like that they were a community program so I applied. I'm excited for the interview

Did you have any socials with the residents like other programs where you meet them the night before?

Hey! No there was no pre-dinner or anything. Most we got was breakfast on the day of the interview. Apparently it was a step up from previous years lol

There are not many IMG friendly OBGYN programs..So, if you've applied to a lot of programs, expect a lot of rejections..Its very hard, but after applying 2 seasons, I'm kinda used to it now..It doesn't affect me that much.

Are you applying for any programs other than OB?

Last year I was adamant that I wanted only OBGYN but after undergoing the trauma of match and SOAP 2016 I am willing to enter into any Residency program, not necessarily OB. But still OB rejections are very painful !

I was active on this forum in 2014..I applied for 2015 match and didn't match and re-applied last year..I applied to IM both the years, but didn't match..This year, I haven't applied to a lot of programs..I applied to a few OB and few IM programs.

Well, I blame the competition ..Getting into residency has become extremely competitive, specially for old grads..I hope something works out for everyone eventually.
