If you want to apply Certified, you absolutely 100% need your medical credentials verified, is the only way you will get your ECFMG certification after you pass the exams. If not, you will not get certified until then.

FYI you do not need to be certified to apply, here is what happens:

Depends on your scores, may be you have a very high step 1 score, and passed your cs in the first attempt, and you are not certified:

they might invite you, or put you in the hold pile, or they might reject you right away.

It really depends also in how competitive is the program.
Many here will tell you, apply sept 1st, with ECFMG certification, of course, that is the best option, but not realistic in so many cases.
Many people apply incomplete, the second best option is applying with all the scores and ECFMG certification pending, but you have to look into each programs details, as some need ECFMG certification, for those hold your application and apply when you have all your stuff ready.

I will apply at the end of Sept with all my scores, but with my certification pending, which i will have by October i anticipate.

Hope this helped you.
