Certificate Surgeon Writing an IM LoR!

I would like to know how an Observership LOR from an Associate Professor of Surgery at a Reputed hospital recommending me for an Internal medicine Residency be valued by the Internal medicine residency programs?

Is it absolutely necessary for an Observership LOR to be given by Internal medicine profs if i am applying for IM?

Please advise.

Would it work? Yes. It will work.
Is it better than an LoR written by an internist? No. It's not better.

It would be perfect if he also mentions the circumstance that made you rotate with him despite your intention to do IM, like for example you had no chance to do IM observership or something like. But that's not mandatory, I am just saying it's better.
