Correct Answer Preliminary or Categorical? Need an advise!

Guys, I need your advise.

My ideal plan is to do one Preliminary year in General Surgery, IM or Pediatrics and then do the residency in Ophthalmology.

Ophthalmology is a really competitive specialty and I have a huge chance not to match.

What do you think is better to do: to be honest and apply for a prelim year in Surg, IM and Peds or to apply for categorical programs (in case I do not match for Ophthalmology I will be able just to go on training in that specialty)?

Are my chances different in prelim and categorical programs?

How do you know that after the prelim year you can more easily switch to ophtalmology? if it is that competitive, very few vacancies show up - I guess. And what if you end up getting stuck in that prelim specialty?..yeah, I also heard that opht. is very competitive, dunno the strategy. I want to do psych, so I am in an easier situation..
