Certificate AAMC ID in Lor Cover Sheet

Hi there.

I am a medical student from Ireland. I am currently doing a 4 week vascular surgery elective and a 4 week general surgery elective at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

I want to ask an attending for a LoR. I have looked at the ERAS cover letter and it mentions that I require an AAMC ID. To recieve an AAMC ID however I need to purchase an ERAS token.
I don't intend on applying for residency until the 2014 match so it seems a bit pointless purchasing an ERAS token now.

Anybody have any advice on this?

You can ask the attending to write for you an LoR.

Later next year, you can use it, you can add the AAMC ID to it when you register in ERAS at that time. In this situation, you cannot waive your rights to see the the LoR.

If you or the letter author insists on waiving the rights then your best bet is to tell the attending that you cannot do it now and that you'll contact him later next year so that he/she can write the letter for you at that time.

I would like to ask him sooner rather than later.
If I ask him to send it to the dean at my school of medicine will it be considered by ERAS to be non-confidential.
If I want ERAS to recognise that I waived my rights should I just purchase a token this year?

Yours Sincerely,
Aaron Donnelly
