Help Switching from IM to FM!

I want to increase my chances by applying to FM beside IM
Will they welcome me as I have experience in IM but no FM
What s the lifestyle of FM resident, Wht patients does he see?
Does he go to ER, regular floor or just outpatients?

To increase your chances in FM matching, you need to get at least one FM LoR from US doctor. Also create a story in your personal statement that you now love family medicine and that's why you want to switch.

FM medicine doctors usually work as primary doctors in outpatient basis. Very rarely they cover ER shifts (this is mostly in under-served areas).

Some family medicine doctor have admission privileges and they go see their patients at the hospital but that's also not very common.

To see what fellowships you can do after family medicine residency read here Fellowship options after Family Medicine Residency?

A big disadvantage of FM is that you can't typically do hospitalist job, hospitalist jobs have been increasingly popular in recent years because of the high income and good life style.

That was an important question for me, but what about if psychiatry was in place? All my USCE is another field as well as my LoRs..how to manage?

I can arrange for a good personal statement but what should I write to convince PD about my desire to choose FM or psychiatry?did you hear about successful stories?
or I should stick to IM to save time and money?
