Question Plan A or Plan B

Hello
My name is Bushra Nazir. I graduated from King Edward Medical University, Pakistan in March 2012. I am currently preparing for Step1 and plan on giving it in December 2012. My original plan was to then go for USCE/externship/observership in Feb, March, April 2013, and to give Step2CS while there, in april. And then give Step2CK in july and apply for next years match.
I've started having second thoughts now about cs and ck. The second option is to give step1 in dec 2012, step2ck in april 2013 and then go for cs in may or june 2013. But the problem with that is that the CS score might get delayed then..
The reason i'm leaning more towards the second plan tho, is bcoz i want to have my step1 score before I apply for an externship, cuz its gna cost a lot of money. Secondly it'll be easier to stay in the hard core studying phase after giving step1 and giving ck right after it seems like a good idea. Plus some people say that CS requires you to have CK knowledge, at least it helps..
So anyway, please let me know whether i should stick to my original step1, externship, cs, ck plan. Or switch to step1, ck, cs, externship, with possible delay in cs score...
Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

Both of your plans sound reasonable, just take in consideration that every year there seems to be a delay in STep 2 CK score if you take it in Aug.

I took CS before CK, no problem there. No need to take step 1 or CK before CS. You can take CS before, or after CK. CS takes longer for results to come.

CK takes time to study as well, don't underestimate the duration of the prep.
You take in consideration that you will be ready in CK in July, but your are not taking in consideration how much time you will be spending in the hospital if you manage to get USCE. Just make realistic time intervals, with some extra interval as a safe plan. Say you say you will take 4 months for prep, plan it for 5-6 months.

Good luck, study hard for step 1, as it will be essential for your CK.

How much of a disadvantage is it to not have all 3 scores before september 1st of the year?

I will be in that position since my score will be delayed 11 days after applications begin. It's way better to apply with complete profile, but i will take my chances. Just don't apply places who specifically say they need ECFMG certification or verification.
