Default IMG..in need of Advice

Hello
i'm an IMG yog 2009
i passed step 1 with a score of 216...taking step 2 in few weeks..hopefully will get 230+
what i need advice about is the residency...i waant to apply for surgery..i have been working in the OR of a large hospital in north carolina for the last two years...observed so many surgeries and i have no idea if that would help..
i'm currently conducting a research with a research institue..
done more than 4 month of rounds and helping in surgeries with 2 surgeons in the hospital where i work
i have been seeing patients in 2 diffrent clinics under the supervision of a licensed physician for about 6 month now...
i would like to do anything that would increase my chances for getting into surgery..i mean it wouldn't be the end of the world if i got into anything else..but i wanted to see if any of you guys can help me
thanks in advance
Mena3

your step 1 score is your weak link in your application. But like you said, getting good marks in CK and Step 3 will definitely help. It seems you are going about getting good USCE..... just get strong LOR's from your mentors, apply on time (hopefully Step1, CS & CK passed), make a good PS outlining why/what inspired you to be a surgeon and what you hope to achieve out of your training blah blah...

Rest as they say is fate, apply to the IMG friendly programs and give your best shot for Surgery, or for any other specialty for that matter.

Good luck!!
