Unhappy year of graduation cutoff makes me crazy

I am 8 years graduation although I did internship 1 yr, 3yr home residency and more experience
many programs of IM say 3 year or 5 year graduation cut off!!!
should I give up?
i am trying to contact program directors by email,
some dont reply
few say go ahead
sometimes the secretary replies and says you cant apply automatically, although I think that the program director, as a doctor, will be more understanding
any advice plz

That's the problem of old graduates, they get filtered out automatically by program coordinators without even reading their CV and experiences.

A sensible and understanding program should look at the time between your last day of clinical experience and today not the time from graduation.

The problem is that in USA they don't understand how come you apply for residency after all those years of experience.

The other problem is that some PDs do not like Old Grads, they think they will be stubborn and arrogant and will impact the other young fresh grads in the program.

Your best bet is to contact the program directors and see if they understand your situation but the problem is they may not answer you about 50-75% of the time

Nevertheless, do not give up hope. There are programs (specially community programs in New York), would love to take an experienced old IMG grad because their hospitals provide service more than provide teaching for residents.

Default Other specialities or fellowship

I believe that connections and doing multiple observers will help bypass the filters
Maybe less competitive residencies other than IM
Like FM, psychiatry, peds
Maybe fellowships, although many of them now don't accept non us residencies nowadays
