If l am applying to psych and IM but the only US LoRs l have are unrelated (surgery), should l use them or use my country's LoRs instead?

Correct Answer Use them

I think they won't be relevant to the specialties you're applying to, but they at least show that you had experienced the US medical system, which is a plus. So, I'd say upload them and include one LoR from your home country. The ideal combo we've been hearing about is 3 US LoRs + 1 home LoR.

NEVER use an LoR that is recommending you to another filed even if it was from the biggest attending in Harvard.

So is it OK to use the letters of the surgery people for IM and psych if they are generalized letters not mentioning a specific field?

I mean, A LoR from a surgeon, but saying he'd recommend me for any residency, is that OK?

Yeah, that's OK if he does not specify a specialty.
