Certificate Department Chairman LoR!

Some programs ask for LOR from department chairman
I can not get LOR from the chairman of IM department in my country for some reasons
so, I have un-waived LOR from my X-chairman when i did my residency, it is not that official, he signed with his name and signature and date
will it be enough?
can I use dean s letter from the dean of my school who recommends me and this one is more official with stamp?

X-chairman is less official but more powerful and more specific regarding my speciality IM
Although I used my dean s letter as part of my transcript
Can I use it again and alone as a separate LOR?
Complicated?hah?

Default because of limited number of LOR

so I want to use my cards wisely
specially that some programs do emphasize on letter from department chairman???
I hope this point will not filter someone application if he didnt send the right paper

Alanine, I think you sound a bit confused here, so let me try to clarify this.

(1) Dean's letter/MSPE CANNOT be reused as a LOR. They are 2 different things. LOR's come from your clinical faculty, under whom you directly did your clinical rotations/internship/observership etc.

(2) When programs require a 'Chair of Medicine' letter, they are usually referring to a US based teaching hospital, where you did your rotations/observership. 'Chair of Medicine' is equivalent to a 'Head of Department (HOD)' in many commonwealth countries.

I dont want to sound rude or anything, but home country letters are useless in this case. Try to get some USCE. But of course, there is no harm in uploading the letter by your faculty where you did your internship/residency.

Hopefully this helps and didn't make you more confused LOL. gluck with everything.

Hello
Im an IMG from Mexico.
So if I can get a letter from the Chair of Medicine of my school, would that be useless??
And can somebody provide a sample of what the letter should say
Thank you

I'm an IMG and i did my internal medicine clerkship rotation in the US 2 years ago in 2010. Does that mean that the department Chair of medicine of that hospital in the US is the one that should write the letter and not from my home country? And also, can i call the hospital and ask for that letter since it was 2 years ago!

Yes, what my husband did, is that, he send 4 LOR's. Most of the programs got the Internal Medicine one, but some like peds and obgyn got another one from Canada.

In total I say send 3 US and 1 Home country LOR.
