Surgery How to be a surgeon in USA?

I am glad to be a membe in this forum,
I am moustafa ahmed from Egypt in my final year in alex school of medicine and I am intending to get through usmle program hoping to be a resident in the united states but I have been told that it so hard to be a surgeon especially that I am from middle east as I dont have a priority as i come last after American and Europeans and Indians!

So i wonder is that true or not and thank you with my great thanks

Getting into surgery residency is very difficult. TRUE
Getting into surgery residency is impossible. FALSE
Europeans and Indians are preferred over Middle Eastern. FALSE
American Graduates are preferred over IMGs. TRUE

I recommend you click on the Surgery-Match tag link at the bottom of this thread to read previous discussions regarding this issue (many many threads about this).

I also recommend you click on the Egypt- tag link to connect with Egyptian USMLE applicants, connections are very helpful in understanding the USMLE and residency matching process.

http://www.nrmp.org/data/programresu...alty2010v3.pdf

Go to that website, it's a survey of program directors in all different specialties including General Surgery - pg. 50 is what your looking for.

It shows what's most important in the eyes of the program directors.

Scores are just one of the limiting factors, the biggest obstacle however is that surgery is highly wanted by AMGs.
IMGs cannot compete with AMGs, AMGs are preferred over IMGs across all domains and in 100% of residency programs.
