Hey all the forum members!
I am an IMG,

Visa status: GC holder
USMLE STEP 1/2/cs...245/254/passed (all 1st attempt)
Did observership in a private clinic 6 months.
LOR: 2 US LOR, Hopefully I will get another 1 from one Family physician(not sure), then it would be 3.

Interested in FM..

MAKE SURE you dont apply to programs that require 6 month of USCE and by that they mean Not Observership or Externship. I know there is like 150/355 programs that state this.

Your chances are better in IM. But I can promise you now if you apply to the FM program that are NOT VISA Sponsoring and require no USCE and require GC, your chances are high, there is like 150 programs.

Look your an excellent candiaite for IM, if you have 2 LOR or FM your good, if not apply to all the IM.

Dude, dont stress. this year interviewes will be mostly given out Oct 8+ and is last second type of deal for IMG.

so for now Apply to IM, do you even knwo the income of FM, the precptor I worked for is going for the match this year to apply to IM to be a Cardiologist

FM is dead, but those programs like in OK, NY, , MA, Cali, MI that only accept GC holders are good, same as IM.

I would apply to IM. Family if I had GC only.

what shima means is that FM is no longer IMG-friendly nor is it a choice for back-up. you need GC & 6-12mos externship (but majority wants residency experience) to get in. that was long ago that FM is that easy to match.

now its either IMGs(no GC) apply IM only or IM & peds..

btw nightrider your scores are good, apply to IM & get match & choose primary care track. and after residency just do a practice like an FM physician, only minus the peds & OB cases.

Default PEDS requires 6 month of Hands on USCE (60-70% of programs)

One thing to keep in mind, during our search even the Peds, like 60%-70% of programs require 6-12 month USCE now. SO watch out save money for more IM application since some Preliminary programs are separate.

I'll be applying for IM next year in 2013, what if it gets like this also for IM?

I won't have time to do all of that USCE nor the money.

I'm a US citizen, but think of it guys, if it's like this for FM and peds, soon it'll be the same for IM.

it like this for IM too, but since there is so many IM programs, IMG like you get matched. Also You need to do USCE no matter what.
