Embarrassed plz help me!!

hi guys,

this might be completly out of topic from step 2ck prep. but just wanted to clarify my doubt.

I am currently doing my clinical rotations i.e. part of 3rd and 4th year of med. school. I am going to a Carribean med school.

As i was reviewing some of the hospital reqirements (OUTSIDE USA) for residancy application, they have mentioned APPLICANT MUST DO A 1YR OF STRAIGHT INTERNSHIP before applying!

what does that mean?

I know in india and egypt etc they reqiure med. students to do 1 yr internship before been given the medical diploma, but my school does not have that pre-requisit.

as soon as i am done with my clinical rotation (includes Basic and elective rotations) i will be given my medical degree.

Does any body know anything about my doubt??? please please tell me and clarify it to me plz.

because in the US, as soon as u are done with step 1 and 2ck,cs you can apply for residancy. but this hospital says it requires internship before that. WTF is that???

plz help guys... even if you know only little that is still fine. dont just read it and go plz plz

its urgent

Hey man...chill..i really don't know about carribean medical school system, but what i know is most of them who apply for match gets matched and start US residencies..so applying for match will hopefully be no problem for you, like hundreds every year.

i think (as a carrib grad) your 4th yr in med school is considered your 1yr of internship. for img, it means we must do prelim or transitionals to be eligible apply to that program. as a carrib img, you are good to go for residency once you grad..

I am planning to apply in dubai..not in the usa
And internship is mainly where u learn n practise on how to put an intubation tube....iv line
And many other stuffs

My 4th year or clinical rotation is basically just observe ans shadow the consulatants..i havnt done anything else..
So i think internship is imp. And not part of 4th yr

i see..
yes.. outside US, internship is a year of rotation to various specialties. you do it after grad or as a requirement to take licensure or for graduation. it is like clerkship but with hands-on responsibilities (IV insertion, intubation, phlebotomy, etc. termed as "scut works" in US)

It's the transitional year you are required to complete in some highly competitive residencies
