Nope. Of course not, even if you took a "medical" leave, you're colleagues will hate you because the extra work is pushed onto them. Now I don't know about you, but I dont like working an additional 2 hours on top of the 16 hrs that i'm working to cover for a resident who's off for whatever reason.

patel: i guess what he means is a PTO (paid time off).. all jobs has that, including residency.

jiyamirza87: yes. i think residency has that & it varies by programs. 3-4wks per year. policy on how to spend it also varies. some progams allow you to go straight 3 wks on leave, or 1wk straight only & remaining 2 1weeks some other months, or 1day per week until all PTO is consumed, some allow it if you apply PTO 1-2mos in advance, etc.. you can check under employment policies&benefits in Freida as to how many weeks a program have for leave..

i think there is too. maternity, paternity or death of immediate family. that's all i know. but usually only less than a week..
if it is that personal like religious belief or something really serious, then i guess you could arrange that with the faculty. other than that, i don't think there is. residency is a boot camp, were in training & employed, so we cant just take our time off when we want to for simple/minor reasons.
but as i said, if it is that imp't there no harm in asking the faculty.
