Smile Only Choice Surgery

What do you think my chances are to get in General Surgery are? (My only choice is G.Surg)


Step 1 227
Step 2 ck 223
Step 2 cs passed first attempt
Finished G.Surg residency in 2011 in India.
Med School Graduation 2008
Research in surgical oncology department in university hospital here in states since last october - ongoing
Observership in surgery since June 2012 - ongoing
LORs - 4 from US surgeons including one from Chairman of surgery and one from Research Head and one from my PD from INDIA (Total 6)

What do you think my chances of getting in G.Surg categorical..?

Based on my impression, your scores are average, and that's not very encouraging for Gen Surg applicants.

Lets see what others suggest.

Dude more like prelim. Your best shot are your contacts, LORs aren't as good as them calling and helping you.

Prob with GS are your scores, make sure u make your own prog list, research well.

with your scores, yeah it is average or below average of GS residents.
but with your previous GS training, that is a different story and a bonus to your app.
just try to apply more and also apply more GS prelim.

You need that chairman calling his ppl, even talking to his own PD.
Most imgs don't get cat even with high scores without that happening.
If they don't do that, even a prelim match isn't guaranteed.
US GS don't care about non US GS exp, cause trauma is handled diff here.

Max LORs you can use per prog is 4, use the US ones, incl chairman's own

Apply in Providence,MI.Herd the surgery PD is good and program accepts IMGs.
