Yes. You can.

FM program will not know that you applied to IM and vice versa.

Make sure you don't tell them either

Doubt this would happen.

Even if it does, there's a little chance they remember you.. unless you look like Barney and stick out

What if you apply to IM and Neuro? Since Neuro programs usually do pgy1 at the IM program...what are the chances they find out?

By same program do you mean same hospital?

I've been told applying to two different programs @ the same hospital is generally not a good idea. Sometimes Program coordinators or Directors talk amongst themselves. Perhaps "Wise One" can share a few more details.

i am not wise, but i have details.
nrmp policy said that PDs are not allowed to give out specifics about ranking an applicant high (but can say he is interested w/ the applicant) and the other rule is, they are not allowed to know what the applicants are applying or are not allowed to ask you(so it justifies if you just said you ddnt apply to others).
i have read the rules on the nrmp site.

I value your input however rules are not always followed. The existence of fights, disagreements and penalties should prove this.

I have a relative PGY3 who specifically told me that the Prog Coordinators of her program is buddy buddies with that of another amd that they discuss out of character applicants and ridicule others, IMGand AMG alike. Also, a friend warned me when applying to her program not to apply to other ones at the center. My father who once tried matching at 50 years of age, applied to FP and Transitional for Anesthesio and almost had the position... in the long run the PD did not rank him even thiugh they worked at the same hospital because according to the PD, "James does not know what he wants". Lastly, while completing a hands on observership this year, the head physician warned me about such a thing without me even asking or mentioning this issue, hence I took his advice as an unbiased honest advice. All and all, from diff sources, a similar consensus came about.

Cheers

If this is true, I'm screwed, because I will be applying to IM and Psych to the same hospitals that have a Psych residency...

yes. that is also true.
and yes some of our apps will be rejected bcoz they knew we applied to another. but it doesn't apply to all programs. some are friends, some are just acquaintances. some compare and some don't.

btw what i said was for the interview part, what you said is more about what happens behind their closed doors.
