Hi nativedoc2,
don't act like a school child who cries for a toy. Be cool dude, have a nice nap, watch an exciting movie, or may be go for a pleasant walk......don't spoil your life with these worries........This is only the first week, four more months to go, I know many people didn't get a single interview so far, so be patient and good luck....

true.. totally agree.. just saw 'End of watch' yesterday, to take my mind off thinking about it.

just chill nativedoc2. you will hear from them next month or so.. now is not the time to worry. we are imgs, we get invitations later (october-january). right now those programs are going over amgs first.

if by january you don't get invites by then, that's the time to worry. so be prepared for SOAP if unfortunately that happens.

hope this eases you dude.

ok, nightrider
t
i think being a bit anxious is normal, we've all worked hard and now it all boils down to this. most of us want many interviews so that hopefully we can match. to all my people take nightrider's advice: watch a movie, go on a walk etc and most certainly pray coz we need divine intervention now :sorry:

i kina agree with nativedoc2. i kno its only the 1st week but i'm an img and its not easy for us. i wanna know before application deadline how many interviews i'm getting so i can send additional applications to prelim positions. i don't really want prelim. but they're better than not matching. guess i'll wait till end of october.

C'mon guys, chill out, it is only the 4th of October! Programs are reviewing application until December! The majority of invites are supposed to come on the 3rd week of October - we still have 2 weeks before we should be getting nervous! keep your thinking positive

Hope so man, it is our own insecurities that makes us doubt. But above everything comes God. Lets have faith!

Guys, lets remember to enjoy this.

i think they mean IV schedule spots for october, as amg & caribb img were able to get invites first & had scheduled already in this month. i was with an amg from a top univ school with 1 yr PGY behind him during the IV. definitely an ominous sign for me on that program.
a lot has just started going over our apps upon release of mspe. that's why acknowledges has just started coming in.
keepin my faith. won't go down without a fight. we all should....
best of luck guys.

but the thing is, they dont care for MSPE for IMG,s many PC and some PD's told me and my husband this.

So MSPE release date should not even matter for IMG's. I am just so confused now about whats going on, but I hope your correct.

My seniors told me that the MSPE comes out during interviews, meaning they do read it, and discuss it. I thought that it was not important for IMGs but they told me it is, but not as important as for AMGs

yes for amgs even if they have incomplete apps, low scores, bad mspes, etc. they wud still get invites to the programs they apply.

shima: well that was just my observation as acknowledges start coming in after oct 1. maybe i was wrong, not sure on this. just keepin a positive vibe.

Majority of AMG apply with STEP 1, so MSPE is very important.

for IMG's MSPE means nothing, they have no way of knowing what your schools standards are, I say this because my husbands IV came before MSPE release, and his school in the Carib told him is not important apply anyway. they put he is top 1%, but they put that for everyone, is like generic form created by a computer.

As I stated before, matched seniors told me that they discussed their MSPEs in the interviews. So it does matter, but I don't think it gets you interviews, but it gives the PDs an idea of your performance during clinical years.

that's a great school. he would be rank high if that's the case. i wish i was there..
my school didn't gave out a generic mspe. it was specific, detailed with figures, standards, percentiles, even my exact rank out of the total graduates.

the thing is alot of medical schools simply don't even give MSPEs. like mine. they don't do that. they just do transcripts. but theres no continuous record of all ur professors' evaluations. so i don't hv an MSPE

it depends/varies among PDs. the PD who IV me just blasted me with questions while the asst PD went through my transcript like a checklist, one by one & page by page.
each PD has its own way, no one can predict if he looks or wont look at the transcript.

the questions are actually very easy (why this program or specialty, tell me about you, etc) & if you think about it you already have the answer to those. the mistake i did was i memorized a script i made day before and bcoz i was nervous & jittery it got mixed up & i was stuttering. i know & i can feel that it wasn't a good one and i just wasted 1 program.

my 2 cents: just think & self-reflect on yourself & how to answer the day before, don't memorize an answer. just be calm, spontaneous & honest as you never know he/she might have connections (i was surprised she knew evry LOR author i had & she even trained the other one).

For sure, they can even get you matched at that program, provided that the attending is willing to go the extra mile for your candidacy. But you should also keep this in mind that in the US everything works according to the merit and if you are good enough he/she can take you places. If not, then how can they justify someone's selection over another candidate.

Acquaintances have a biased opinion and others can easily tell that. If your contact is an attending at an academic program then that's the best.

the word "connection" means close friends or family friends or relative with a doctor who has influence, not just being a friend from doing a rotation under him/her.
if you have that, contact him & ask nicely.. that should get you an invite at least or who knows might rank you very high despite not doing well on IV.

yes, not just the connection you make by being a student of his. as we all get to be friends with our preceptor or attendings.

of course. they can ask their buddy doctors to have you as a rotator or an asst in their research. connections are the best credentials.

true story 2yrs ago: img with only step1 score and nothing else got IV from UCLA. while waiting for the match results, took the rest of the steps and walah! he got matched. even amgs w/ great credentials don't get invites from that program. he has a great connection inside.

Connections can also be preceptors from clerkships/rotations/observerships. The prob is that most people dont stay in touch with key ones post rotating! One of my preceptors that I did a 2mth clerkship with is one of my biggest advocates! He got me in touch with several other contacts and is helping me out with residency. I stayed in touch with him post clerkship because I was still in the same hospital and would approach him every mth or other mth if I needed more assistance. He is well known in the community and I picked that up early, and I knew I would be applying to his specialty, so I kept in touch.

So even though I have family and friends who are connected, I realized early, the more the merrier
