On the NRMP PD survey data, I see that scores above 220-230 are "almost always granted interviews"
http://www.nrmp.org/data/programresu...cialty2012.pdf

But for IMGs, it must be higher I'm sure.

i don't understand why for imgs this must be higher. This is ridiculous. whts the point of doing an exam that standardizes the performances if ur just going to set the bar higher for imgs
this is too unfair
on sdn i read someone got Step 1 196 and is getting general surgery.

the way I see it
USMLE scores are USMLE scores whether an amg or an img takes it. There should be no difference when it comes to granting ivs based on step scores

I agree to what you are saying. They are an objective way to measure knowledge and they are standardized. But I don't think scores are the only criteria based on which someone is called for an interview. I just quoted what was written in that survey report. Not all IMGs get the opportunity to come to US to do electives or have publications/research under their belt. Bottom line, we have to beat the average score of AMGs and stand apart if we don't have all the other things PDs look for. If an IMG does have many months of USCE etc, it is great for them. I agree with your sentiments though.

But we got to play the game as it is!

Default Porgram list

Hey guys,
I am planning to apply to neurology too, been getting rejections in IM
Anyone got a list that is IMG friendly? Please share it with me
Also it will be nice if all of us can start putting down our credentials here so we know what is the criteria they are using to send in interviews
Ill start

IMG
YOG 2009
Repeat applicant
Step 1 246
Step 2 237
CS passed first attempt
Step 3 in december

One month observeship in US
1 US LORs rest from american board certified but not practising in US
Currently IM resident year 2 in UAE
One publication, 3 researches in progress, expecting to publish them in coming few moths
applied to 130 programs in IM and planning to apply to at least 20 programs in neurology to be on the safe side

Default any progress?

What a silent thread here! Any one who knows an IMG who matched into Neurology this year? Why are IMG Neurology matching experiences virtually non-existent!
