Clock Late applications and ECFMG certification

I have a question relating to ECFMG certification. I realise this topic has been touched on before, but my situation is a little different to those discussed previously and I wouldn’t mind a few opinions. Thanks to a hold up getting my Med School registered with the ECFMG (relatively new school) I have sat my Steps quite late in the year, so much so that I am sitting CK this week. I have completed Step 1 (240) and CS, but my results for CK won’t be available until (fingers crossed) Wed the 25th of Oct. Now clearly this leaves me in a bit of a freaking pickle in relation to applications – not just in the fact that most interview places will have already been filled, but also considering half of the programs I’d like to apply to have an application cut off in late Oct/early Nov. To make things worse, these programs have asked for ‘Current ECFMG Certification’ on Freida. My degree is already approved by the ECFMG, so certification should arrive approximately 2 weeks after my CK results - just in time to miss these cut offs. Bugger indeed!

So my question is this, should you choose to accept it (cue Mission Impossible music):

1) Should I apply to these program as soon as I have all of my results in hand, not waiting for ECFMG certification, or is this just a blatant waste of expensive applications?

2) And if they have ticked ‘Current ECFMG Certification’ on Freida will I be filtered and not even appear on their screens?

I have a GC so the visa is not an issue either.

I’d appreciate anybody’s 2 cents. Cheers.

Once you get the CK pass results apply to programs.
In your ERAS mention that you are ECFMG certified.
There's a question in ERAS (date of certificate), say it's November 2012.

This way you won't be filtered by the certificate filter.

I personally think that programs would still look at applicants till late October/Early November.

You can also increase your chances by calling programs one by one and tell them "hey, I just got my CK results please have a look at my profile".
