Hey add1...peds is less competetive than IM and with 232 in step 1 you are sure to land sumwhre BIG...Am a student with step 1 of 213 and need visa..planning to do electives all in peds...and have been told by many seniors and a couple of MATCHED applicants that its okay score to get ivs in peds and not to flunk any steps...Fresh grad is a plus in any field, but in peds u just have to show you are inclined towards it only..your elective in peds(i rarely hear people doing electives in peds)..ensure it...for your info..one senior of mine with score 229/239/1st attempt..2010 yog and 2 months obsie in peds and 2 years home residency(not post graduation) in peds and no research already getting a couple of ivs in september..so its not all thorny in peds...and one more thing..applying widely in peds is applying to around 150 programmes9including your PTAL)..so you can also apply IM as backup and get matched there too...don't get fooled by 240 scores everywhere..they are genius people, but for people with above 210 score too there is sum place in USA residency too...232 is stellar a score for peds..and specially for a fresh grad

I got 3 IV's s of know. Applied very late due to delayed CS scores.

1. Cinncinati
2. SUNY downstate
3. Kansas city

Rejections
1. Hopkins
2. Maryland
3. chicago
4. colorado
5. Indiana univ
6. Nationwide

244/257/passed/ not taken/ 2011. 3 months of ongoing USCE/2 US LoR from chief of top children's hospital in US. 3 pubs all top journals.

I have absolutely no idea, whats wrong with my app, majority of people last year received max IV by end of Oct and I have just 3. Scary

applied 45 programs, mix of uni and community.

Anyone with better luck?

1) Do you need a visa? It appears that you do it seems...
2) 3mths USCE only? Any US peds experience?
3) Cant you get the chief to make calls for you?
4) People receive IVs till late Jan
5) Great scores but your rejections are expected. Not only do places like Hopkins and Nationwide hardly take IMGs, but it appears you missed out on some lower tier university progs. how did you select progs to apply to?
With great scores like yours, you should have done 25% for the top name ones, 50% to ones that seemed easy to get and 25% for the ones that seemed extremely easy to get.

Hi lena,

Thanks for response.

Yes, 3 mo USCE were in pediatrics. I got back to chief's to help me out with the interviews. But they are very busy people. They could find time after 3 weeks to write a letter for me!
I applied to a few top, a lot of mid level and a descent amount of community ones. As far as know, I havent heard from any community or mid tier uni programs. Nothing from NY/NJ except downstate. Maybe late application is hampering me.
And I do need visa. Hopefully next few weeks will be better.

Cause nowadays many progs expect more, many FM progs want at least 3-6mths at the minimum. Remember you are competing with other IMGs who have years of USCE experience, so yes its only 3 mths.

@viral_jain, thats an issue, but even if you have to set up appt or camp out at their office. If I had your scores, I'd apply to even more progs, because I bet if you applied right now to another 30 well selected progs, you'd get a few IVs.
