Question Residency without Step 2 CK?

I was just wondering, if you have been working closely with staff on research or clinical work, and they like you, and you have good step 1 grades + CS pass first attempt, but haven't done Step 2 CK, can they still accept you in their program?

I want to finish all the steps in time, before August 2013, but I don't think I can make it because of all the workload at the same time. In case I don't, is it possible I could still apply and be accepted where I'm working?

NOT POSSIBLE!!!
Even if a prog interviews someone without CK, a prog wont rank you without CK! ECFMG wont certify you without CK, meaning you wont have the cert needed for the prog and to get licensed for intern year.

So again NOT POSSIBLE!
You are better off applying next year to start in 2014. Also because you work in a prog, doesnt mean they'll always take you in, dont always go by a verbal agreement.

They haven't said or implied anything about giving me a position, it just occurred to me that if I work hard and do well and they like me, isn't it within the program director's power to give me a spot without Step 2? Although I am not well versed in these matters,I have heard that this can happen, and that's why I'm asking...

It's not that I'm trying to avoid putting in effort for the Step 2 or whatever, it's just that, if one can save a year, why not try?

The problem is not within a PD's grasp. You need to apply for a temp license for PGY1, and you can't get that if you aren't ECFMG certified (see requirements for certification).

The application for temp license for interns is such a problem, that programs want this to be done by rank order submission because of how long it could take for the intern to get a temp license with the state board. If this license is unavailable by the start date of intern year, then essentially they could give you a few days to sort it or they'll let you go.

There is one more option which is you apply to that program where you work and get an iv ... You can tell them I will take my ck in jan ,

What I know is you have to have your ck score available prior to feb (15 ?? Not sure exact date in feb) .. Before programs submit there rank order list !
