Surgery Research or Surgical Assitant!

I have a choice, to do research or assisting in surgical procedure; which one will be good for me to match in GS residency?? Thank you in advance for all suggestion.

for GS residency i think u should do the surgical procedure practice, I have an uncle of mine here doing plastic surgery, he had once said me something like this...

Not a sound advice, but may be it can help

Hands on surgery research, that is with someone whose name is out there, and opp for publications.
