Up Trend 2012 match NRMP Data; Hope for IMGs aiming for surgery, radio, even neurosurgery

Guys while I was surfing thru the NRMPs site I found this ..and thought to share with you fellas, now obviously this is raw material and obviously forum gurus like Sabio, Steptaker etc can give their valuable comments on this.
but for me so far,, I gave it a look and the most astonishing but yet encouraging finding was that there are quite a few nos.of IMG 's who got NEUROSURGERY; i mean neurosurgery whom ppl wud just write off as they are only given to AMG's. But apparently its not like that, DR. Fischer mentioned it correctly, PD's wud hire an intelligent IMG rather hiring average AMG.
and yes lots of surgery matches i saw too..give it a look.

if they have 55 open positions why do they only fill 34 for general surgery in Arizona? Any explanations?

As far as what I've heard from program directors, what they're expecting from candidates in terms of qualification/credentials is the single most important factor when filling positions. It doesn't matter if there were 55 open positions, if only 34 were seen as the right fit for the job (met their basic requirements or qualifications), the rest of the spots will just go to round 2. Even if at the end they don't find the right candidates, those positions will just remain unfilled. What's important is filling the positions with qualified candidates, not simply meeting a numerical quota.

Yes. I agree with you. These numbers shows that even in difficult specialties IMGs can still get in.

Contrary to the common rumors, I still believe that IMGs have great chance in USA, check my article here
IMG matching in 2012 remained the same

slowpoke made a good point and its true that its pointless to fill in the spots just for filling sake...PD's must get eligible candidates or else incompetent candidates might prove as excess burden which they have to carry along which nobody wants..................
MY MOTIVE BEHIND THIS POST IS THAT STUDENTS/GRADS LOOKING FOR RESIDENCIES OTHER THAN IM,PEDS,PSYC,FM MUST KNOW THAT ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO CRASH INTO OTHER RESIDENCIES TOO..........LOOK IN DOCUMENT ...THERE ARE LIKE 13 IMG'S WHO GOT INTO NEUROSURGERY,,,,NOT TALKING ABT 30-35 ODD WHO GOT INTO RADIO AND MANY INTO SURGERY..............SO ITS ACHEIVABLE JUST YOU NEED TO DO THE RIGHT THING FOR IT.....SO SYUDY HARD AND PREPARE WELL FOR UR RESIDENCIES TO CLAIM UR PRIZE...............

The problem is that once people get into residency they immediately disappear from this forum (and all other forums for that matter). It's very difficult to get these people to post after they match.
Your best bet is to check here

I beg to differ
Saying IMG is meaningless

You have no idea if they are a US citizen
You have no idea if they have US experience (for example, a Carib graduate)
You have no idea WHO THEY KNOW
You have no idea how much research exp they have (how do you know they didnt spend 6 yrs on a research prog that eventually earned them that neurosurgery spot, how do you know they didnt spend 2 yrs in prelim general surgery before being able to match there)
You have no idea what other degrees they may have

I can go on and on!

All you know is that they are an IMG...so to go off that alone, isnt exactly accurate.
For example I know IMGs who match into GS and radiology every yr, but they are US citizens, with US experience/Carib grads, research and all. Someone else may not have that opp if they were just looking at their scores alone.
