Yes. You can say John Smith, MD

MD in America means you are done with med school

All of the IMGs in residency programs I knew were referred to as 'MD'.

In terms of communication with patients, it makes sense to have a standardized degree title in the US, as the average patient is not going to know if Joe Bloggs, MB BCh BAO is a physician or not!

From my own understanding, you have to be careful about this because you don't want to misrepresent yourself to be a licensed medical doctor. Misrepresentation is considered the practice of medicine without a license, which is illegal. So just be cautious. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you have graduated from Medical school and if you are ECFMG certified , then ofc you are an MD in US.
