Listening Failed the Match; Thinking of MPH now!

Hi all
I've been trying to get into I.M. residency program but unfortunately with no luck, and now there's an opportunity to pursue a Master degree in public health.
I would like to know what you think guys? what are the advantage and disadvantage to change my educational direction from residency to a master degree?
Any input will be deeply appreciated!

I would think that doing MPH would increase your chances of matching as it will give you some sort of USCE and improve your CV and allow you to make some connections.

The MPH will also open up options other than residencies such as looking for academic posts and non-clinical epidemiology jobs.

What do you mean by clinical work? U mean a residency?

if all you care is to match and have a job and become a resident....then why dont you just try for a different specialty. at least for me, I'd rather be a resident and have a job, than go unmatched....

I wish if i can get matched but i'm really not into peds, Psych. Most of family medicine prog require at least 6 months USCE in FM.

I totally agree with u, but spending two years would make me very old IMG(10 y since graduation) don't you think that would have negative impact on my chances since my chances now r low?

I applied to 90 prog that i met their requirements. From my experience during the last two match seasons, ur chances decrease as the time goes, but i hope iīm wrong!
I had one and half year experience in home country. Plz donīt understimate these 6 months of USCE cause these clerkships cost me lots of money that i reached reached the point that i canīt afford any of these paid services!

Default My last advice

U HAV TO PAY MORE UNFORTUNATELY AND pay money to
make a good program list, personal statement and interview preparation
if u dont hav powerful LOR , this would be a problem and against u
and at last,90 is not enough
u can try applying to low profile fellowships, like geritrics and others then go back to residency or do ur MPH
