Question Observerships for 2014 Match.

I'm an IMG, graduated 2011, non-US citizen.
I have research experience of 2 month in the US, but no clinical experience. So I am planning to do four observerships through summer of 2013 at IMG-friendly hospitals where I might be called for IV's. I'm extremely short on finances so have to be exceptionally good with this. Are Griffin, Thomas Jefferson good places to opt for observerships? And would you people know of better, reliable places? And do you think it will be wise to also focus on Large university hospitals for LOR's cause clearly they carry substantial significance? Would be very grateful for your response, thank you.

I have read posts of people doing obs in community hospital where they can get an IV . would say you can do that see the 2012 match thread see people with the same scores and profile like you , find where they got an IV and then you can try there but remember this will only help you at that place , in case god forbid the year turns out to be competitive and they get better candidates you will pay a heavy price becoz their recommendation will not help you much at other places as they will not value it . there is an outside chance that the attending would know other Pds in the near by hospitals and can make a call for you but other than that , wont help much . Now look at the other side , if you do obs in a university with a big name it will count every where , bigger name more contacts , more calls and more respect for each call they make but again any one of the plans can fail so buddy its all about luck but university obs is a safer bet as they have many small community hospitals affliated to them so they can easily place you there so undoubtedly go for big names .

good luck..........
