Listening Increase chances of match next year!

I am an IMG who needs a visa. I haven't gotten any interviews because I applied relatively late. If I were to reapply next year, does it matter if I take a research job in the US or Canada to increase my chances for residency. Also will studying for Step 3 while I am waiting for next years match a smart thing to do so I can apply for H1-B. I am doing a lot of research in this and Canadian IMGs have a lot of hurdles to overcome after doing residency in the US.
Thanks. Any experience or input will be appreciated and I will post when I find out more stuff.

Hi,

Step 3 is not a requirement for applying and securing residency in the US.

Observership and Research experience is ranked low among the selection criteria for residency.

If you can obtain a research salaried position in the US I would take it so that you secure a visa. But while in the US it would benefit you the most to complete part-time Physician supervised insured hands-on clinical rotations in the specialty you are pursuing.

US hands-on clinical experience and securing 4 competitive Clinical Evaluations and LORs from US Physicians related to these rotations would greatly benefit you.

Contact me for more detailed information and to help you develop an effective plan.

Best - Victor

Hello
Thank you for your reply. I do have US clinical experience and US LoRs. My rotations were all I'm the US with hands on experience. I can give you all my details. I have previous research experience and a paper published. Should I PM you?
I am going to apply for SOAP and I don't think I can apply for FM this match because my LoR and PS is specific to IM. I'm just worried about not matching because of visa. I will be graduating and getting my degree soon and be ecfmg certified.
