List Opinion About My Ranking List

Hello,

I am usually silent on these forums, but now am in need of your expertise. I have the following programs to list. Please help if you can. Much appreciated.

Albany Medical Center
Sisters of Charity (university at buffalo)
Cook County Hospital
St Francis of Evanston, Illinois
Lincoln Medical Center in Bronx, NY
Englewood Hospital in New Jersey
Harbor Hospital in Maryland.

Thanks in advance

What is most important is how you liked them yourself and what are you seeking to do (fellowship? private practice? research?). Without knowing any information (not even a basic idea of which one you liked the most) it is hard to give you an opinion. This is probably how I would rank them (disclaimer: I have not been to any of these programs.)

For #1, Albany vs Cook County, whichever you liked most, because of the following-
Albany - I actually researched Albany because I had an IV but ended up canceling it. It's an alright program in NY state and has its own medical school, therefore likely has research in many fields, but maybe not hardcore research. It is not necessarily a prestigious program, but solid. I don't like the location. It has a couple of fellowships in house. Your co-residents will be a mix of IMG and Carib IMG and maybe a couple of AMG. It is technically a "university program" OR a program with a strong affiliation (like NYMC Westchester, which is not a true university program but kind of feels like it)

Cook County - a LOT of work, but well-respected program in terms of exposure to a wide variety of patients. You probably get pretty good training coming out of here. It is fraught with some of the problems that come with being a county hospital (social/placement issues due to uninsured population, lots of work, etc.) Cannot comment on its ancillary staff, hopefully you talked to some of the residents about that. Also a number of fellowships available. I would probably rank this one first but this is all very subjective.

for #3 I would probably rank Lincoln, and the rest rank them depending on how you felt during your visit and what sort of things are important to you (family/friends/location?). However, except for the first two, the rest of these programs are probably not very different from one another, so just rank them how you liked them!

For me it will be
  1. Albany
  2. Cook County
And then depending on which one you liked the most. Buffalo is a good program but its not NY or Chicago (St francis/Lincoln) if you like big cities. None of these programs have any problem. I would take any one of them

Default Lincoln Med

What are your guys' thoughts on Lincoln. as it stands, its number 6 on my list. I dont mind a few patients, but i must admit ive gotten anxious from what ive heard about patient load. I dont know if id be able to handle 12 patients. either way, my main goal is getting a good fellowship. right now, what i want is endo so it shouldnt be too difficult from what i understand.
heres my list currently:
1. cook
2.albany
3. englewood
4. harbor
5. uni at buff (sisters)
6. lincoln
7. st francis

I think Lincoln is perfect on your list. Harbor is the one in Baltmore, right? If yes, you might want to consider ranking it 3rd and englewood 4th.
