Are these programs in order of your preference? If not, first arrange them.

Great, assuming you want to go for a fellowship in the future,

I would suggest not to put UNLV on the top- reasons-

1) not a great academic place
2) Las Vegas is happening city and all but only for a few months, then it will get boring and I felt that UNLV is practically cut-off from other better universities/hospitals across the US, which will harm your chances of getting a good fellowship.

I feel it's important to have a faint idea of where in the US you are planning to stay for the rest of your training period (fellowships, transitional hospitalist before going for fellowship, etc).

I would rank as follows:

Danbury
UI-UC
Elmhurst
Nassau
Masonic
Mt. Sinai, Chicago
Jersey Shore
Canton Med, OH
UNLV
UND (purely because I just cannot do Fargo)
Charleston, WV
St. Luke's, MO
Rosalind Franklin (very bad with just VA for 3 years)

Thanks a lot. Yes I am looking for fellowships after residency, but not certain which one yet.
I agree with the last 2 esp Rosalind Franklin.
I was not sure whether I should put Danbury before Masonic or not, but you also think the same so I guess I will keep it there. What do you think about Jersey Shore. It is affiliated with Robert Wood. Shouldn't it be before Mt Sinai, Chicago?
Again thanks a lot for helping me out.

I am sure you must have felt strongly about Danbury, since you ranked it second. I didn't find their fellowship placements impressive. I interviewed at Masonic and if you are interested in Cardio, then Masonic is a good one to put on top. In the end, your gut feeling matters a lot. Glad I could help.

Jersey Shore = Mt. Sinai as a hospital and Chicago >> Neptune, hence Mt.Sinai > Jersey Shore!

Thanks.
So just going by fellowship rates, I guess Masonic should be at the top. I am not that much into cardio, but it might change later on.
And about UI-UC. The residents were definitely happy there, but the fellowship rates. Are they better than the rest

I don't have any first hand info about UI-UC and hence, I kept it in the order of what you already had.

Something worth noting though- there are people who are ranking UNLV much above than I am going to. So, take with a grain of salt whatever I say. Please confirm with your friends who iv'ed there.

I would rank Jersey Shore higher than Elmhurst because of more fellowship options at Jersey and in Elmhurst they will work you to the ground. I interviewed at both places for reference.

The NRMP's best advice for creating your rank order list:

Ranking Tip: Only rank programs you have interviewed at AND are willing to attend! If you match, it is a binding commitment!

Tip #5: Learn how the matching algorithm is processed by reviewing http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/about_res/algorithms.html.
Tip #4: Refer to “Charting Outcomes in the Match, 2011” to assess your competiveness as an applicant and in your desired specialty. http://www.nrmp.org/data/chartingoutcomes2011.pdf
Tip #3: The length of your rank order list does matter! The NRMP data consistently shows that matched applicants have longer ROLs than unmatched applicants. We advise applicants to include all acceptable program choices on their ROLs.
Tip #2: Always rank programs based on your true preference, not where you think you have the best chance of matching!
Tip #1: Finally, do not wait until the last minute to certify your rank order list! Ranking opened on January 15th and the deadline to certify your rank order list is 9:00pm eastern time on February 20th. Give yourself sufficient time to create and certify your ROL. Most last-minute ROL changes are regretted by applicants.

Yeah, but all those fellowships are at Robert Wood. There is nothing in-house at Jersey Shore. What do you say

Elmhurst only has 2 in house fellowships and one of them is GI, which pretty much every resident in that program is trying to get. And the other is nephro which isn't very competitive anywhere you go. There were unfilled nephro spots this year. I would prefer to work in a more relaxed environment like Jersey Shore than be grinded down in Elmhurst.

Yeah you are right, Jersey Shore had one of the happiest residents that I met on my interviews.
