Calendar When's the latest you can take the Step and match 2015?

Does anyone know? I know this is a weird question that's school dependent but I'm just looking for an approximate. I'm assuming it's around June.

To be ready for the 2015 match (ERAS opens September 2014 and Match results in March 2015) you have to have finished all your steps (Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS) and got your LoRs ready by September 2014.

If you have any of these missing, you still can apply but your chances will be less.

Thanks Sabio, that helps. But I was wondering if there was a particular month that I should be targeting as the latest possible month for Step 1, so I know I have enough time to put in all my rotations for the 2015 match. My school allows me to take step 2 after the completion of 4 cores. I've tried calling the school but the staff isn't very helpful.

Like based on just people, is there an "average" month to take the step 1 by to match for a particular year?

best way to answer your question in to simply tell you how long the results take to come out.

Step 1 and 2 CK = 4-6 weeks
Step 2 CS 6-8 weeks.

Ideally you should have all your results in by September 1. The earlier you apply the better. Most programs will close by Nov 15-30.

Plan accordingly. Good luck

Default september 15

The process opens this year on September 15th for the 2014 match
You can check out the time line at the NRMP website
Be ECFMG certified by that date to get a better shot at the match

As an IMG you don't need a CS score, do you? I was under the impression that you just need Step 1 and Step 2 CK. Is that right?

1. It depends on the program to which you are applying. Every program usually states what the application requirements are: some require just Step 1 while others require CS. Some require full ECFMG certification. So... the bottom line is to check out individual program requirements before applying.

2. As an IMG, your application will always be stronger if you have all Steps sat and passed (with good scores, I might add). Some specialties prefer applicants with Step 3 completed also.

3. Even if you don't have CS sat, every program assumes you will have it passed and have your ECFMG certification by the rank order list deadline or thereabouts.

Bottom line:
You don't need CS for all programs.
However, you will have a more complete application and be a more attractive applicant with all Steps sat / passed / ECFMG certified.

Being ECFMG certified at time of application is VERY beneficial if you are an IMG. The only way to be certified is to have step1,2 & cs passed before 30 August. The certification requires 2 weeks, but is usually done in 5-6 days. This ensures you are certified by Sept 15 (when you submit your application to programs)

Default late CS taking and late match application

hi every body.
i am an IMG and like to apply for 2015 residency match.

i have taken all steps with exception of CS. i am coming there for research in early june. but dont know when to take cs exam?!

Is late August is too late, considering this fact that i need time to get familiar with new atmosphere and hospitals, etc there.

Is applying in late Oct. really have negative impact on my match result?
score1 :213 score 2: 249 +paper

Thanks in advance for your help!

You don't need step 3 to match, you need to have an ECFMG
