Probability 5 Spots; Ranked 30; What is the chance of matching?

Guys I was curious, if an applicant is ranked in middle (30-33) out of 65 programs for neurology, is there any chance to match? program has 5 slots.

Being top 10-15 for 5 spot is good/excellent chance.
15-25 ok/good chance
25-30 little chance.
30+ for 5 spot almost no chance.

who ever told you other wise is trying to be nice.

According to NRMP Results and Data 2012, neurology programs had to rank 5.3 applicants to fill one position (average). You can draw whatever conclusions you want from that data. I would turn to objective data and make your own opinions from it...there are a lot of trolls out there.

you have a chance. though i can't say that it's 'that good', but as long as your not in the lower bottom, its still quite decent. anyone in any case can break thru the statistics.

Shima's advice maybe a little harsh, but i think she's not trolling around. She's the one who prefers to tell the ugly truth, as oppose to sugar-coating it & ending up giving false assurance to someone. So take it with ease & just have faith.

To keep frustrations low in case something worse happens, i stick to the saying: "simple needs, moderate expectations & big dreams."

Good luck.

In in the end, the 5.3 is the average (some programs need less, some need more). Honestly, I don't really think anyone knows their fate with this one (myself included). I guess we'll all find out in about 5 days and 12 hours. Good luck!
