hi
i'm An old IMG (2001)
have scores old 99 in step 1 and 2 ck and passed cs in first attempt in 2011 dec to 2012 nov all the exams
3 LOR from AUSTRALIAN radiologists where i work as a sonographer since 6 yrs.
problem was i wanted to come to australia and do AMC which i did pass- step 1, but the system here is crap and takes 2 yrs waiting for step 2 clinical and even after that the PG chances are next to nil and i want to do PG (medicine), so did the USMLE for doing PG
my question is what to do next and what are my chances ?
i can easily come to US for 3 months, no visa restriction, and thats why i'm going to do my clinical observership soon for a month or so

am not very familiar with ''what works in US'' so suggestions are welcome but plz try not to discourage :sorry: :D:eek::confused::scared:

Honestly, your chances are good but not as a PG in USA. You have a solid chance for PGY-1 Surgery and Radiology. Also apply to Pathology, in pathology you should have a good chance. Also try Neurology.

Primary care you will have less chance.

Have you tried New Zealand.

Why is australia PG chances next to nil?
Because the system here is made so that the people who are head of department can make u work as an intern for 10 yrs and still u wont get residency position and someone who has just joined can get residency position before you if they wish
And its a british colony so being a indian or different color dosent help

I diddnt know that about autralia.

Since you have no problem with the scores I suggest you gain some US clinical experience and get some LORs from US physicians. Since you are an old IMG you will need US clinical experience.

Best thing is to select a less competitive speciality(either pediatrics, family medicine, psychiatry or internal medicine) and get clinical experience on that. Then you can apply for the match in that single speciality.
