The increase is 7% of non-US IMGs (from 40.6% in 2012 to 47.6% in 2013). I predicted that there would be an increase. But wait! It's not a true increase! Probably, it decreased! The false positive increase is due the programs that used to fill their spots with prematch, entered in the match this year. Given these programs are not desirable by AMGs then they are already filled by IMGs. That's it!

Yes. I agree. The increased percentage may simply reflect the all-in policy that was first implemented this year. But remember that many of those programs that are hard-core all-prematch continued to offer prematches this year as they opted out of the NRMP match.

I would still think that a 7% increase this year is actually a great success for IMGs.

Once again, contrary to expectations, IMGs continue to succeed in getting into PGY1 residency slots.

Congratulations.

this doesnt sound normal.. even with the prematch the nrmp would count them as matching.. the nrmp counts everyone that matched from those that participated right? a prematch is a a program of the participant's choice, so it counts as a match afterall.. Not sure about this, but it makes more sense

Before the 2012-2013 season residency programs had the option of offering a contract to applicants before the match results (prematch) and if the applicant agreed he/she had to withdraw from the match and sign the contract.
Prematch offers were banned (illegal) to US graduates since several years and they were recently banned for IMGs as well this year.
The official public NRMP results did not report prematch matches in prior years. Therefore, it was thought that the actual percentage of matching IMGs is actually higher than what's reported.

Default But why such an increase in IMG

We all know that any program will prefer AMG whatever the IMG will have scores or experience
Did numbers of residency slots increase? Did AMG decrease?
Where is the truth?

The truth is that since there were no prematches there were more IMGs reported in this year NRMP results and therefore higher percentage.
The number of AMGs increased by 1000.
The number of residency slots increased by 250.

Anyway, the detailed report of the NRMP is not out yet. Once it's out we'll analyze it further.
