California PTAL letter for Indian/Pakistani/Egyptian Graduates?

Hello Docs
Are there any IMGs who applied for PTAL letter " California Letter " , can you share your experience ? and Did your PTAL letter come adequate or deficient ?

I am an Egyptian graduate and want to apply for one. I know that the medical education is similar in India, Pakistan and Egypt. We all go for a 6-year medical school after high school.

Please share your experience about PTAL letter and if it comes deficient in areas like Psychiatry or Family Medicine , How we can fix that ? Is it easy to apply for continuing education courses in these deficient areas?

Thank you

You know that in Indian medical schools as well as Egyptian , we didn't take 4 weeks of psychiatry as required by CA license board. In Egypt, we don't have family medicine department in most medical schools. I don't know what is the situation in India or Pakistan, but it may be similar so we will also be deficient in Family Medicine as CA requires 4 weeks of family medicine.

The application is expensive. It costs $ 500 + Biometrics fee + Fee for issuing certificates from your medical school. If some one has applied for PTAL and can tell us more about it, this would be helpful. I don't believe that it is that easy to take additional courses in FM or Psychiatry to compensate the deficiency in your credentials. They will NOT accept you if you just go to a US medical school and show them your deficiency letter telling them " Hey, give me some FM courses " , They will kick you out of the building, unless there are specific places, hospitals or schools that teach the deficient courses. In this situation, applying for PTAL is useless, time and money consuming + the aggravation.

Any Help please.

i talked to a an analyst @MBC , and she told me that if u have done only 2 weeks of psych , by doing neurology rotations , you "compensate" for those 2 weeks of psych thats missing.

Thank you for replying. Do you have any information about the Family Medicine requirements ? Do they exactly require 4 weeks or can Internal medicine courses substitute it ?

Thank you

I have question regarding chances of IMGs in California. I heard it isn't IMGs friendly place. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks!

Hi again, I was seeing the application forms for California. I was confused between forms that we should fill up. Is it PTAL or licensing application for IMG? I guess the later one is for one who completes residency from the US. Just to clarify!
