Listening Chances of an img!!!

Hello all,

I just passed my step 2 Ck (250) first attempt and my step 1 score was 200 (dont know wat went wrong) and tht too on second attempt . I also cleared my step 2 cs on first attempt and have 1 yr o usce. My question is tht will I be able to match neurology or IM or GEN SURG(preferred) considering tht im IMG w US citizenship. I also am planning to do 6 months of research and trying to pass step 3 before match.

PLzzz reply

THANKS ALL

Good wishes!!

Yes. You can match. Your CK score is an eye-opener.

However, I advise you to focus on one specialty and work on it. Get USCE and LoRs specific to that specialty and you should easily match.

Wow 250! Great score... 200 will hurt so much tho. Get good LoRs and network! You have clinical experience with patients? Research is better than nothing but work with some docs here it will only boost the CV

I don't think you have a chance at Gen Surg (no offense ). I come from a Caribbean school and I know guys with 250's on both steps who didn't match surgery. It is extremely competitive for IMG's. IM you can easily get.

a failure in step 1 (in addition to a low step 1 score) will be a major hindrance between u and GENERAL SURGERY...step 2 score is great...but i don't think you'll match in a competitive specialty like GenSurg with a failed step 1. Go for Neuro or IM..both are relatively less competitive...

I guess i am not gonna apply to gen surg program. So IM and neuro it is with FM as a backup, ofcourse gonna apply widely. Also, does anyone knows how is it doing path residency? Is it really competitive and do i stand chance? I always like path since i tutored path for 1 yr at my med school.

Thanks all

It's funny because I just talked to someone who knows someone who only had low 200's in both steps and matched pathology. I heard path was not competitive this year.

Is it satisfying as a career? I heard future jobs prediction and salary paid is same as FM. Is it true?
