Question PGY 2 Positions!

Hi.
Can anyone tell me about the process of applying to PGY 2 spots in IM residency programs? Is it also centralized and regulated like the PGY 1 match, or do programs consider applicants independently? And what's the time frame for applying to PGY 2 spots.
Thanks.

PGY2 spots are open when some residents drop out during their first year of residency (Interns). It's not regulated but it's centralized by the AAMC (see link below).

There's no time for PGY2. The opening can be any time. But it's usually before the start of the residency year (July 1st) but they can also take "off cycle" people.

Go to this website
https://services.aamc.org/findaresident/
Click on View summary and you'll see the openings.

There's another commercial website called Residency Swap but the above website is official and more reliable.

By the way, just in case you don't know it, you can only get PGY2 position if you have done PGY1.
