Help Dillema about my timeline for residency program application

I know there are so many successful IMG on this forum who got matched as well as many highly potential applicants who gonna get their residency next year, I am so new about those residency application processes although I googled online to be a little bit mor familiar with it. So I'd like to hear from your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I just took my step 1 exam last month with a fair score, not a better one. Right now I'm working on my step 2 CK. Don't have any clinical experience in US. But I'd like to apply for residency program this year if it's possible.

My current timeline is as follows:
Try to pass CS in 1-2month (do you think it is still possible with no clinical experience? And I just found out it is hard to find a study partner in my area);
Meanwhile seeking some opportunities to work with doctors in hospital, say 1-2 months;
Submit my application before this autumn;
Finish CK test in this December.

Welcome anyone with experience in residency matching or any friends on this forum evaluate my credentials and give me some advices!

If you submit your application without CK score you will have very less chances of getting interviews.

Try to finish CS and CK before September 2013.

Do you think it is possible, in my case, to finish CS without any clinical experience in US?

@belindalimm

I passed my CS exam without any USCE, without a study partner and without subscription to online videos. So, although I wouldn't recommend the last two (the anxiety during the exam was killing me!), it is definitely possible

May I know how you prepare for CS without a study partner? The reference book you used? The only book I have for CS is First Aid, and there is nearly 45 cases in it. Do you think it is enough for the coverage of real CS test? And I didn't take my CK yet, still working on it.

I could not find a study partner, and I was in two minds about the videos until it was too late to spend that much money and not use it!

I used First aid, and Kaplan's 35 complex cases. I liked the first section in the Kaplan book, as it gave me templates on how to talk to patients in different scenarios. I felt it was better than First aid in that area.

I would say, even if you have trouble finding a partner, try to recreate these scenarious in your head, and how you might respond. And, do practice typing the Patient Note after each case you read. Try to organise your thoughts quickly for that.

I had finished Step 2 CK less than a month before CS, but I doubt if it mattered.

Thanks for giving me the explanations! It's really hard for me to get a study partner either even if I posted on forum several time but no one gets me back. I'll try to practice with myself. Appreciate your help!

I tried to talk to people who had already taken the exam, for tips regarding various situations and transition statements from one part of the exam to another. That helped me a lot.

You might feel more reassured if you subscribe to videos (as most seem to do) in the absence of a study partner.

Good luck in your preps and exams!

Do you have any recommendations about those CS videos?

I'm sure there is a poll/thread on the CS forum here. You might want to check them out.

I think CSEvideos is most commonly mentioned.
