Idea! some tips and hints...your guidance for those coming to USA for first time alone

I wanted to put some advices to those IMG who are coming to do US clinical experience/whatever it is
I know this could be something simple for those who have been staying in USA for long time
but believe me it takes sometime for those who want to discover USA as a different country and culture specially those coming from asia, africa and middle east.I fell in some of these mistakes as i didnt find someone to give me those advices and this cost me time and money

1-if you are going do observer in USA, dont go unless you really have booked(90% to 100%) a place in a hospital and been approved for that, the idea of just going and looking here and there is not nice as it will cost you money and really some went to usa and stayed for months trying to find observer and returned after spending money in vain. try to look for observer 6-12 months before you intend to do as it is not always easy and there is a long waiting list

2-dont take your family with you. just by yourself. you may finish observer in a state and find another one in another state on the other side of the country. you cant take them with you while you are jumping from a place to another. also expenses will be higher. you cant find a place for them to live with you and the reason in the next point

3-best way to stay in USA is room sharing. it is least expensive. renting an apartment will cost you much more. mostly you will have to lease for long term which is one year and if you break the lease you will pay a fee and lose your security deposit which is paid in advance and equals one to two months rent. hostels is another option which is like a hotel but with shared rooms and usually cost 25-40$ per day

4-try to find a place soooo close to the hospital within walking distance.transportation in USA is not nice. if you have subway it is fine, practical and not expensive.buses are bad as they come every 30-60 min and if you miss it in the morning you will have to wait another hour and you will be in a bad shape in the hospital. taxis are sooo expensive. many states you have to call them to come to you not just wave to them on the street and they will not stop to you then. you will need them as a must during bad weathers (rain, snow) and forget about buses then. but make them the last resort. you may pay 50$ for an average distance

5-regarding communication with your family, the best way is the internet connections, through famous communication softwares. you can use a nice service for phone calls, offered in famous companies, where you will pay 50$ for unlimited calls, text and internet. you will find offers like that and it will help you.

6-use the large supermarkets. it is much less expensive with variety of food and goods. groceries are not always good. they are more expensive and less goods and you will find it really boring. try to schedule the weekends to go for the big supermarkets to gather your stuff and before you go you need to know the bus schedule by website and phone as they are different from weekday schedule.

7-dont miss getting electric appliances, computer stuff or clothes. they are high quality and much less in prices than in your country.keep the receipt as you can return any goods not abused up to 3-6 months

8- try to locate cultural centers of your own in the city through websites. you will find people of your language and religion and this will help a lot as you will have home sickness and this really may affect your performance in the hospital

I hope this will help people as i was in their situation when i went to USA one year ago and these informations would have helped me a lot.
