Default IMGs in OBGYN??

Hi! I wish to know that what are the chances of MS OBGYN IMG (with 20 months of post MS clinical experience) getting matched to an OBGYN program?

I wish to know whether anyone has ever heard of IMGs getting matched to OBGYN programs?....also if someone could comment on IMG friendly OBGYN programs in US..??

And what type of USCE should such an IMG aim for to increase his/her chances of matching?

I'm aiming for OBGYN too, non US IMG, 2 LoR so far, 1 Externship, 1 Observership, planning to do, 250's on both steps, 1st pass CS. Gonna do research at U of Pittsburgh until the Match with possible 1-2 publications by the end of the year. Do you think I have to try to squeeze in another 2 months of USCE?

but i advice you to to do more USCE.

OBGYN is a wonderful field.

I never do this, but since I know for this field you need to work in office and follow doctor and have insurance, I advice you to contact one of these companies to have excellent LORs in the end.

Hello!

I also want to apply for ObGyn this september.
My credentials are:

- Step 1 244/86;
- Step 2 Ck: will take June/July;
- Step 2 Cs: pass, 1st attempt;

- LORs: will have 2 LORs from ObGyn MD for 2 observerships (one for 1 month, 1 for 2 weeks); I have 1 Lor from Childrens Hospital Boston (Harvard affiliated) from observership done in 2009 on Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery;

- doing research on breast cancer since January 2013; no publication;

- Green Card holder

- YOG: 2011;
- started residency on ObGyn in home country, but I did only 2 months of my first year;

What do you think my chances are to Match this year? I heard it is becoming more difficult to match in ObGyn.

It appears that you have limited observership USCE and no publications for your research.

One of your LORs and Observerships is more than 2 years old and cant be use.

No hands-on USCE.

Graduated in 2011 and did 2 months of residency rotations meaning that you possibly have 1 year "gap" in hands-on clinical experience.

As a green card holder residency programs will hold you to greater standards than an IMG/FMG with a B1/B2 visa. You have greater opportunities for obtaining hands-on USCE, including residency relevant salaried paid position within hospitals (http://advancedcolleges.us/formr)

OBGYN
US Seniors - 944
US IMG- 83
Non US IMG- 77

As you can see OBGYN is very competitive for IMGs.

Like many IMGs you should be preparing for two specialties (IM, FM or PEDS). Starting with hands-on clinical rotations in primary care and related subspecialties, obtaining updated LORs/Clinical Evaluations, and then obtaining a residency relevant salaried position within a hospital. We can help you with all of the above and more.

Contact me for a more in depth evaluation.

Best - Victor

you need hand on clinical experience.
You need to contact one of these companies that offer this. there is no way out of this. also your breast cancer research will help out a lot , but USCE-hand on, with insurance is the way to go.

Thank you for the information!

This is a bit discouraging, since I don't think I will have 3000-4000$ to pay for a hands on USCE and also apply in September to residency programs and pay for another 4000 $ at least.

Shima, do you mind telling me what is your status? Do you have any USCE? If yes, how did you manage do get it? And where do you want to apply?

Thanks!

I was just wondering if one month of hands on clinical experience would be enough for application in ObGyn specialty combined with one and a half month of ObGyn observership, resulting in 3 US LORs.

Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Yes, it is enough, my post was for the person with no USCE.

Default need help

Hi I am an IMG, interested in OBGYN, looking for observerships. I have many Lors but are from Family medicine docs. I did a clerkship in Family Medicine 2006, I completed an obgyn residency in my home country with academic excelence awards. It is hard as an IMG, because my first step 1 attempt failed... passed with 78. So what are my chances?? already have the ecfmg certificate. Also if anyone knows about research programs.... thanks!!
