2ndly when a person is over with IVs then he has to apply for NBME n wait for Match results??

Arrow Answering your questions

When you finish Step 1 and Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS exams and pass them all you will be ECFMG certified.

Then you can apply to residency programs using ERAS.

Then you will be invited to interviews.

Then it's up to you if you want to go to all the interviews or some of them but it's better to go to as many interviews as you can to increase your chances of being matched. This is specially true for low profile candidates like (low USMLE scores, old grad, no USCE ...etc)

After you finish all the interviews, you can then rank them from the most you want to the least you want in a process called Rank Order Listing. This happens in late February of every year.

Then your preferences and the program preferences will both enter a computer algorithm managed by the NRMP.

Then the results will be released in mid March of every year.

Then if you have been matched you can join the residency training starting in July of every year. If you are not matched you can participate in the Scramble Match or wait and apply the year after.

A prematch occurs when you go to the interview and the program offers you the position directly and ask you to withdraw from the NRMP match and sign the contract with them. So if you say yes, you will then have to cancel the other interviews (if you have more) and withdraw from the match and start training with them (again in July) and yes you will be paid a resident salary just like any other residency.

Note that the links in the text above will take to relevant threads about each of the keywords.

so if i get you right! after the interview all the selection procedure is by computer or what (!computer algorithm managed by the NRMP.)

what happens to people who got more interview and are ranked by more than one school. i mean if a programme wants 10 residents and one is ranked 3rd by the programme and also 2nd by another programme/ does that person get into two residencies or what?
thnks for responding

The NRMP software will not match you in two programs. Once you are matched early in the algorithm then you are taken away from the calculation and it goes and search other candidates.

It depends on the program. If they are willing to sponsor your visa then they'll arrange that after they offer you the prematch. If they are not willing then most likely they wouldn't send you for an interview in the first place.
