I think you should travel and work with him and show him that you are hard worker and do your best.

Even if he's your uncle, he still wants to make sure that you are a good clinician and that you deserve the LoR and he does not want to lie in the LoR.

US clinical experience and US LoR play major role in getting interviews specially for those with average/low scores.

thank you for the reply, but I wonder if it is OK to get LOR from my uncle, even if I worked for him ??

i am planning to apply for 2014 match.. my step 1 is 239, step 2 ck is in August CS in July.. i have almost 1 yr of exp from home country.. i am planning to apply mostly in IM field ..i have 1 month of US clinical exp in IM which means i have 1 LOR from US and i have one from my home country.. i was wondering if its a possibility that i know a doctor in US i havent worked with him but he's willing to give me a letter of recommendation..
my qs is how bad do you thing it would look to a program director that i haven't work with a Doctor but got the recommendation letter?

In my opinion, the program director might not like it if he comes to know it. He will doubt the content of other lors too. If possible you should try to work under this doctor atleast for sometime and then get his lor. (I dont know if people who actually get a lor without working , will lie and say that they worked under the doctor for sometime. I dont know whether this lie can be caught but this is very unethical.)

no no.. you're misunderstanding it. im just getting a letter not writing it on my resume that i work with that person..it would be based on my characteristic/personality.. he won't write that i work with him..
but i guess it still won't be a good idea..
