Scheduled date.. During the "off cycle" day you get to know the program better, the downside is that it's really tiring to spend a whole day as an observer, especially if you have other IVs close to each other and that's my main reason to chose a scheduled date..

About the program, It's a great community program with lots of in house fellowships and they DO prefer their own residents for their fellowships.. So, if you are a hard worker, you'll end up in your desired fellowship even if it's gastro or card.. Also, they DO sponsor H1b, which is great for those lucky bastards who already cleared Step3.. Also, really close to NYC.. I mean.. That's why I said I love this program..

Hi, I got acknowledgement from Thomas Jefferson, PA.. but they downloaded my program on 16th september.
Does this late ack signify anything..like they might schedule me for later interview..
Can any1 please shed a light on this..(GOT NO IVs so far so any input will be golden for all hopefuls like me--but be brutally honest)

Acks are just that Acks. It means nothing - not rejection nor IV invite in future.

I got an invite from Metropolitan Hospital in NY!! I am so happy!! Great, great location! I work in the upper east side and I love it there!

Anyone here got an interview from Jacobi after the pre-screening phone call or e-mail that they did? How about St. Luke's-Roosevelt? Any news?

@betiomom: If you applied late, that happens. They will download your transcript automatically soon.

@raven: It will be pointless, but e-mail them anyways!!! I said pointless because Lincoln hosp in NY (is this the same program you were referring too?) just mass e-mailed everyone last week that it received 5,000 apps!

I had 9 IVs so far and 4 Rejs.. Applied to 111 programs all categorical IM..

My strengths are USMLE Scores>255 in both steps, PhD in pharm, pubs, strong LORs, YOG<5 years and I'm really flexible in terms of geography and size of the program (I just want a place who provides me the better training:camaraderie ratio and decent chances to get into a fellow)..

My main weaknesses are that I need visa and I'm not exactly a fresh grad (My YOG is 2010), no step3..

IVs:
UPMC Main Campus (International Scholars Track)
UT Southwestern Dallas
UConn main campus
Allegheny General Hospital
Albert Einstein Philly
Yale/Bridgeport Hospital
Brown/Rhoad Island Memorial Hospital
Cook County
Metrowest

Rejs:
University of Nevada Reno
Yale Main campus
Northwestern
Penn Hospital

Nothing today so far.. Let's hope for the best folks!

I applied October 4th upon becoming certified. Guessing that's not the best date to apply.

Credentials are ok. But applying late hits you hard man

Default Don't Lose Your Cool

You've got very good scores, your passing CS at 2nd attempt notwithstanding. Moreover, it is too early to start fretting! We still have about three weeks before the end of October. After October is November and December. There have been stories of people who got their first interview in December yet matched!

Worrying and fretting reduce your productivity.

While we keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best, let's enjoy the joy and blessings of the present!

To those with interviews already, I say a BIG CONGRATULATIONS! You deserve those interviews! We will join you soon!

Cheers!

no worries at all , as you applied late your application ll be reviewed late and thats why you ll get IV a bit late. Oct 5 is not late in any case .

Really? That's good to know! I just wish more NY programs have in-house fellowships. Because I'm getting invites from really good Baltimore programs, but I love, love NY.

It's like this: Bronx-Lebanon vs. Baltimore programs. No competition, right?

But I think of it this way:

Bronx-Lebanon
Dangerous environment -1 point
Works you to the ground -1 point
Cost of living in NY -1 point
But 1 subway ride away from Manhattan +100 pts!!

Baltimore programs
Great affiliation to JHU + 1 point
Great program + 1 point
Great chances of fellowship + 1 point
Baltimore

Lol! It's because I always thought I will be homesick in the US at some point. But surprisingly, after almost a year, I'm really having fun in NY. Great people, great city.

This match I will have to choose: happiness vs chances of fellowships.

You'll never know when the next IV in the same area will come... Sometimes they also only give in specific months. Like program A: Oct-Nov, program B: Dec-Jan. If I were you, I'll schedule it tom.

Works you to the ground -1 point
Cost of living in NY -1 point
But 1 subway ride away from Manhattan +100 pts!!

Baltimore programs
Great affiliation to JHU + 1 point
Great program + 1 point
Great chances of fellowship + 1 point
Baltimore

Lol! It's because I always thought I will be homesick in the US at some point. But surprisingly, after almost a year, I'm really having fun in NY. Great people, great city.

This match I will have to choose: happiness vs chances of fellowships.
Just have in mind that IM is just 3 years and more important than the city itself is the environment inside the program, since you'll spend 90% of your awake time inside a hospital..

Regarding Balto, well, I did my rotations there and the good thing is that DC is 30min away, so it's no bad at all.. The main problem are rats and violence in some areas of the city..

So, my advice is to keep your mind open and during the IVs you'll find out what fits you better!!

Hahaha... You are right, my friend. You have a good point. My aunt who had her IM residency in Brooklyn told me I won't have time to enjoy the city during residency. Because, like you said, we'll always be in the hospital. lol.

I wonder where the match will bring us...

yes , you are not alone. We will wait when our time come. It's looks like a line now for an IVs . First AMGs, IMGs with >245 scores and than others .
Hope for the best!

Default IV @ St. Barnabas (Bronx)

I received an IV invitation from them, but they say that they "will be having rolling admissions" and when their program fills they "will no longer be granting interviews." (I know it is a prematch program)

Does it mean that they could cancel my interview if they fill all their spots???
(My interview is on November)

i think i just realized a grave mistake i made. I applied to both prelim and categorical IM spots for the majority of the programs i applied to. i did it only because I thought if i don't match categorical, I could use the prelim year to gain experience and apply for int. Med in next match. i didn't realize this was such a big mistake until now when i read some old threads on the topic. im not too familiar with the application process and rules.. so now im worried if i just dug my own grave.

anybody have any input on how badly this is going to hurt me?

I sent an email to them regarding that question and they replied that they won't call anymore interviews after the positions are filled up.

I thought so, because of last year's experience.. but their email has the following:

"[..]We are interviewing for 11 categorical spots and 3 preliminary
spots. We will be participating in the NRMP match this year.[..]"

That's why I was confused.. But they will be outside of the match this year.. It seems like a good program with an affiliation with the University of New jersey and a fair chance of getting fellowships..

Good job, fellows! I think that if some kind soul compilate all of the IVs offered this season in this thread, we could generate a true list of FMG-friendly programs better than matcharesident.com.. What a waste of 80 dollars!!

Default my rejections list

ugh, its been such a dry weekend...

spent some time compiling my rejections list and list of hospitals that i'm holding out hope for. I don't know if this will help anyone but just thought id share my rejections list in case anyone with similar stats would like to know in the future: (p.s.- don't laugh... i literally aimed for the stars!)

George Washington
Baystate/Tufts
Cambridge Health
Union Memorial
Dartmouth
Pennsylvania Health System
Baylor

theres deff a lot more.. but soem are just quite embarassing and a bunch that have been lost in the heap of my trash bin...
