Great! Congratulations! Could you please share your credentials in your signature and the programs you get IVs?

Hey all, as promised I will share experience from the skype interview.

It was with one of their recruiting directors. It was short, asked why the program and why family medicine. Answered some of my questions about the program. Really low key and friendly. Must have liked me a little because they offered me an interview invite about 2 hours after we spoke on skype.

To date I have 5 rejections and three interviews. Just got one from Indiana University, quite surprised. Nothing from any NY programs yet.

If you have more Qs about the skype experience feel free to ask, we're all in this together.

You guys I could die, I did not know I needed to upload my med school grades, since I send them to ECFMG, and I did not see any check box for them while applying... a Program coordinator emailed me and asked me when my transcripts will be available and I was like what??? the good news is some programs are just now starting reviewing applications.....

My husband and I are starting to get really discouraged. This week has been a difficult week. He has received rejection after rejection. I hope others have had a better week and are receiving lots of interviews. We would really like a few more interviews. We don't want to place all our hope on one or two programs. This process is so much more stressful than I ever anticipated. Sorry for the downer post.

OMG, one of the programs rejection letter,(don't remember wich) said, we had a record number of applications this year , is not looking so good...

You are not alone... we can just hope for the best, the interview season is not over yet, I hope you get more invitations, and your husband match.

After 6 rejections, I have just got the first interview offer from UMN North Memorial. Is there any wild guess about the frequency of silent rejections among FM programs? I do hope that at least 50% of programs that have not sent out rejections are still considering our applications. Is it too optimistic at this time of the season?

Congrats on ur interview!!! From what I have been told, assume 50% would be silent rejections that is if you hear nothing from them by the end of november... At this time its tooo early... so dont freak out...

We have received ones from most of the programs people have listed. St. Elizabeth, University of Colorado, Mercy Des Moines, University of Utah, some places in Montana and Idaho, some places in Illinois, Fort Wayne, university of Missouri. I think we have 26 rejections and 2 interview offers. We applied to 237 programs in fm. Of course as I previously stated we have only one interview since the place where we had our other interview decided to close their residency program. That really sucked. So far we have one at the University of Arkansas. My husband really likes their rural focus so hopefully they will work out. I have a strange question to ask. We got a rejection from Promedica in Toledo Monday. Then Tuesday they sent us a letter saying we weren't rejected because they had gotten my husbands graduation year wrong. He doesn't have an interview there but he isn't for sure rejected. So confusing. Did anyone else get this? Anyway I pray for everyone on here. I hope you all match in hospitals where you will be happy. It's nice to have others to commiserate with. Another question. If I understand correctly, some places reject you without telling you. That seems a little wrong. I would rather receive a flat out rejection.

Yes, let's hope for the best to come soon. 237 is a safe number. I am only eligible for 80 programs, otherwise I will apply more.

silent rejections.. ugh that to me is the worst. at what point do you think it would be best to start emailing those programs that you haven't heard from yet? i mean.. hopefully before they all silently reject you?..

People say 4~6 weeks after applying. Tell them any update that you have such as new scores, experiences or publications. I am asking myself if there is nothing new, is it considered disturbing when contacting programs just to express our interest in them one more time on these busy days.

I've cancelled some interviews: St Elizabeth, Jackson Memorial, Uni of Arkansas, Mercy, Riverside

It was very hard letting Riverside go, it's such a great program.

This should open up more positions for some of you. Good luck!

Tenly if you don't mind me asking, why are you cancelling interviews? How many interviews do you currently. Congrats on having such a productive season so far.

15 FM iv, but due to financial constraints can only go to 10. I believe 10 interviews should be enough to match. If I could, I would have gone to them all. Since they are all great programs in one way or another. But, c'est la vie!

Yeah I hope so too, applied to FM with IM as a back-up. Had good responses in FM and I've decided to focus on my 10 iv in FM. It wasn't easy cancelling any interview (IM or FM). There is so much doubt in this whole process. I would say for those of you with 17-25 iv's out there, if you can afford it then go to all of them! Hopefully everything works out well.

Congrats Tenly. I think you will do just fine with 10 interviews. Good luck with them all. We are praying for similar good news but also looking into what my husband can do with a MD but no residency, if need be. We don't care if he makes a ton of money as long as we can pay off his student loans. I really hope being a family doctor is in his future because it's all he's ever wanted to do. Again good luck to everyone.

Congrats Tenly. You are doing amazing. I hope it starts to pick up for us. We still just keep getting rejections. It's pretty discouraging. Good luck to all.

Rj -Family Medicine
Residency Program at Abington Memorial Hospital. Due to the large number of applications for the seven positions available,
applications are reviewed by a selection committee.

so, far I have only one IV in NY.

that's an amazing IV stat. Are you a repeat applicant? Coz I saw your post in 2012 for the 2013 IM residency match. I saw your credentials in that post and it wasn't that great compared to other guys in this site but you're IVs are quite amazing. How did you manage to get that number of IVs in FM?

well, remember its not only scores that are taken into account. clinical experience, LORs, pubs, research... so many other things add up in order to get interviews. Im sure tenly has a strong application. we can't really judge anyone, just hope they like our app as well hehe.

Hi everyone,
I hope this residency season is going well for everyone because it isn't going well forme at all. I initially applied to 200 IM residency programs. To date, have received only 1 interview. So decided to apply to FM as well for a backup.
Do you think it is too late or will i be able to get any interviews. My credentials:
STEP 1- 215
STEP 2- 227
CS- Passed at 1st attept
YOG- 2014
caribbean grad
all US clinicals(2y).
no research no publications
applied to 150 FM programs today
please share with me your experiences and if you r in same boat
Thanks so much in advance.
May we all acheive our goals

Some people have already cancelled interviews and a lot of others would cancel more interviews as the season progresses, this opens up a lot more slots for candidates. There is still hope!

We were told that most programs haven't gotten through even half their applications yet. So many people will be getting more interviews in November, especially if you didn't get your apps. in early.

Who is this tenly?how many interviews have you received so far & how many did you cancel? I have a strong feeling your supposed IVs are ALL lies & you might not even have a single IV!

ok I hope that makes you feel better. Grow up little boy. I have also had my ups and downs but I would never rain on another's parade. If you're an example of a successful doctor, there is more that's wrong with the medical system.

OK. An interview is an interview. First/Second/Third round. Amg vs IMG. The season isn't over. There will be more interviews to come. There is still hope. Focus on the big picture

Never give up. Besides, all really is not lost. There is still plenty of time. Family Medicine is a special specialty that takes their time in reviewing each applicant. The whole package is important.

I wanted to share my interview experience because I wanted people to know that it is possible to gain interviews even if you're an old grad, an img and have average scores. Yes, there are people who come away with 12 interviews and don't match. There are also people who had 2 interviews and matched. There is still hope. Besides, I'm keeping my eye on the prize "Match day". With each interview I'm going to make them say, "I want her in my program!" I'm not going to compare myself with another candidate, just focus on what I could do to stand out! I really feel that this is my year and I am hoping for the best

Thank you, I am hoping for the best too, however making plans like how can I improve myself as a candidate next year, just in case, is stressful, I am happy for you and all that are doing better this interview season, wishing you all the best

Can you please share your credentials, what is different in your profile from last year, I have read your credentials from last year post Now I am really confused, what has made you a superb candidate, I am not jealous but just wanted to know what is so high in your profile, I know people who have improved their cv over last three to four years applying and reapplying every year, struggling and getting only 4 or 5 interview calls with no match ???? What is wrong with them and what is so perfect in you

For the 2 invites today:1 was FM and the other invite was IM. I made my CV better suited for FM so I'm seeing more invitations with FM. I don't think there is a secret to this process.

I have exceeded my expectation for 10 FM interviews and the interviews are still coming. So for people who have less interviews, it's still early and there will be more invitations.

Default Why no interviews??

So my stats (219)/211 (ck)/ pass (cs) all on first attempt, USCE and canadian, LORs from US docs, visa needed. I am applying to family med. I have gotten a bunch of rejections but no interviews yet....is there any hope for me? do they really still offer interviews into november and december? I dont know what to do

OH and Tenly, if your gonna keep on about how many interviews you are getting the least you can do is post your stats or ppl are gonna think your lying

Default 1st FM IV but 2 total IVs

Finally, I got my 1st FM IV today after a long list of rejections. JFK medical center in NJ. It's my 2nd IV overall. My first IV is a peds program - mt sinai in chicago.

Indeed there is still hope for an old IMG like me with a low step 1 score. I think my excellent academic records, pubs, prior training outside US, no break in practice of medicine and med schooling, and US LOR are helping negate my red flags. Matching is more than just USMLE scores.

Nothing new today, no interviews and no rejections. I hope this doesn't mean programs are done, because even though it stinks getting rejections, getting them means there is still hope for interviews as well. Good luck to everyone. My husband's first interview is November 19. Please pray for him. Thanks.

Oh is so depressing, more rejections no ivs... however i hope one of the 3 i have comes trough, recently got the heneppin rejection and the University of minnesota (all 7 programs lol) rejections, and i am super stressed out about the interview to come, i have dinner with 2 residents the night before, and i wonder if somebody can help we, what is expected for us in this dinner? is it friendly or professional?? I know obviously if we mess up can count against us, but what i am trying to ask is, is this people there to interview us? getting to know us and pass a report? or just to welcome us?

I totally understand where you are coming from. We've only had 4 interview offers ourselves and many, many more rejections. I will be praying for you. I am sure you will do great.

I think the dinners are casual business dress. I think their purpose is to get to know you and see if you are the kind of person they can get along with and enjoy working with. The dinners, from what I understand(this is coming from a wife of a MD so I could be off here) involve the residents primarily. Every program is different in the amount of say residents have in the decision making process of who and where to rank people. I generally think all programs ask residents for their general opinions of those being interviewed. I do not think you need to worry. Just be yourself.

My husband was told by a FM program director that they send iv offers through November and sometimes in December. I think there is still a chance for more offers. I also think it depends on the program. Some I believe have their schedules filled while others don't. I do think you still have a chance for more as I hope we do as well. Good luck and we are praying for everyone.

Sure.

Step 1- 221/ step 2-208/ cs he failed on his first attempt however he is scheduled for second time in January which I know is late but it's the earliest date he could get/ YOG 2007/ 4 month us observership and has another observership scheduled in January.

I know his red flags are his YOG, his attempt on CS and because of this not ecfmg certified.

Default Just thought I would share..

I just had my first interview this week, pls dont ask me where.. I didnt match last year so am very paranoid. I got to the city night before and had dinner with 2 residents. The dinner was very casual and the main purpose was to calm me down and relax. The residents even told me that "this is not an interview, so relax"...lol.. The next day i had an interview with a few faculty and PD and it was a really relaxed experience. They just wanted to gauge my personality.

Also just to calm people down, i have not received that many interviews either 3 in total. The main difference between this year and last year is that my app is complete with proper LORs. It is also geared completely towards FM as that is the only field i want to go into.

Further, I have been told by a lot of my friends who are residents now that their program has only sent out a few interviews and that they are still very actively review applications. From last years experience, a lot of my friends received all their interviews in Nov. Hang in there guys. Maybe work on improving your PS, that plays a big part in ur application.

Betiomom, I am getting immune to these rejections. At this point i have developed the attitude of "their loss".

ok need some advice, So the interview I mentioned above, I was interviewed by 3 people. Should I write a thank you letter to all 3 or just the PD is good?

Thank you, yes is their loss , and i agree with Eveli, you should write to all of them and program coordinator too, i heard this chief resident saying how everyone once comment about everyone in the group getting a thank you letter from a candidate, and they were very impressed.

Hey Nikki,

Where are the rejections from? Reason I ask is because a lot of ppl dont send rejections out. So, if someone else got a rejection and you didnt means they are either still reviewing your file or you are on the wait list. Gives hope sometimes.

My mailbox is really quiet, but then again i didnt apply to a lot of places you guys applied. I am canadian and need visa.

Thanks

Default rejection from:

Somerset Family Medicine Residency. It's looking like another difficult week of rejections. I hope others are doing better. We are trying to remain hopeful but it gets hard with so many rejections staring us in the face.
